The Office of Planning & Development announced the imminent commencement of the Loop and East Fork dredging project scheduled to commence Sept. 1.
The office advised that after the completion of a preconstruction conference and the final stakeholder meeting with landowners, channel users and current industry tenants, the public can expect to see the preliminary marshaling and setup of the dredge within the next 5 to 7 days with an ultimate completion of roughly 200 days. King Fisher Marine Services has been awarded the contract and will be sending out marine notices to all contacts immediately. The meeting held with stakeholders and maritime interests on Wednesday, Aug. 18, was to establish the mechanics and the procedures associated with this project and with the acknowledgement that all marine, oil and gas and fisheries interest would be alerted. Planners of this project are extremely excited since it represents no direct cost to the parish and allows port officials to publicize an actual navigational channel depth of -30 that would allow for the heavier carrier vessels to utilize loop and east fork properties.

Will that affect the clarity of the lake waters? If so that sucks, I was really looking forward to the fall.

That will be dredged around Monkey Island and the East Fork area from the old
gov't docks to T-Boys place. It won't go all the way to the old jettys. It will
cover just the industrial docks. No dredging in the ship channel. This is a different
dredging job than what is going on in the ship channel farther North.
