My wife wants a handgun.

I had my heart set on a S&W Model 60...but she won't have a handgun without a real safety, so I'm trying to find a reliable semi auto that has a safety - not just a trigger safety like the 1911's but something that will decock and render the gun harmless until the mechanism is reversed. Does anyone know of such a creature?

The only thing I'm sure of caliber wise is nothing smaller than .380 - unless yall would recommend 22 magnum or something like that.

Thanks for your help.

Beretta has all those safety features you mentioned. I have a PX4 .40 and I love it! They make a compact version as well and I think they are available in a 9mm. Great guns!

My SW99 Compact .40 (basically a Walther P99) is lightweight, shoots straight, and has a decock mechanism. If she's gonna carry in a purse, though, it's hard to beat something like an airweight hammerless .38 revolver. ;)

I've got a ruger with a de-cocker......its a reliable gun......I think it was under 400 bucks too......p-45 model I think?? Its kinda big to put in a purse, but I'm sure they make a compact with that feature.....

Without ALOT of practice, she will never get the trigger pulled......I agree with pox

my wife shoots my p95 ruger 9mm but like dink said if you dont pull the hammer back on that first shot its harder to squeeze due to the action
