Has anyone fished @ the new Cameron LNG plant in the ship channel across from Turners bay yet? I was just wondering if the fishing is as good over there as it is @ the Trunkline LNG plant east of Calcasieu point? Those rent a cop security guys @ Trunkline LNG are a$$holes! USCG regulations say you have to be 50 ft away from their structure. Those guys think 300 ft is 50 ft. I have a 50 ft 1/4" rope with a tennis ball on the end of it in my boat to make sure I'm over 50 ft away. I usually just anchor off & listen to the rent a cops yell @ me to get away.

There is a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Dept. boat there while the ship was tied up. They won't let you go into the little bay area. I have also seen a Cameron Parish Sheriff's Dept. boat running up and down the channel now and then.
If the ship is gone, it probably won't be a problem. But they don't have rent a cops, they have the real thing.

I used to Trunkline LNG alot until the lights under the #11 peir went out. The rent a cops always threaten to call the cops but as long as you are 50 ft away they really can't do anything to you. I think you have to stay 500' away from the ships though. I'm thinking of taking a night trip when I get in. I've also seen a Calcasieu Sherriffs office boat over @ the LNG plant in the channel. They are there pretty much every day.

Jsmoke- not trying to be a prude, but let me shed some light on this. I was the Safety /Compliance Manager for Talens Marine on 9/11/01. I was in Cameron conducting an inspection w/ the USCG when the planes struck. At that moment, we had a fully loaded LNG ship between Cameron and LC. Do you know what happen next?

We get reports of a missing plane through USCG and the ship is un-escorted inbound. It became a target due to the proximity to the strategic oil reserve in Hackberry. If a terrorist strike would occur on a LNG ship at the turnaround, you would be able to fish at the LC airport! The LNG terminal itself is fortified and like the pentagon, can take a lick. However, the ships are not as well protected and have the same punch of a atominc bomb due to the liquified state of the gas.

With that said, the easiest way to attack a merchant ship, is by small vessel, like the USS Cole in Yemen. I understand it is agravating, and they have run me off as well at times, but they just have to. I feel good knowing some "rent a cop" as you put it is doing his $8.00/hr job he is paid to do to protect my A$$ from a huge fireball. I hope the new terminal just north of Hackberry has the same security service also protecting it!

And by the way, if you are ever fishing in the turnaround when a LNG vessel is coming in, you are really going to be pi$$ed! No matter how well the fish are biting, you have to leave! And they mean now!

I totally understand staying away from the ships & I also understand the security issue & why they are in place. I'm cool with the rules. What I don't understand is if the rules say stay 50 ft away from the plant in your boat (this is a USCG regulation & is posted on the docks @ the LNG terminal), why do the security guys give you a hard time when you are over 50 ft away. I know it's difficult to judge distance when you are far away from something but most of the guys won't even come out to the peirs to speak to you. They just yell out of their trucks. I've been fishing around that plant for years & only 1 security guard has ever came out on the peir to speak with me. He agreed with me that I was more than far enough away from the structure & told the *** clown in the radio room to shut up.
