Aaron and I have been on the water a good bit over the last two weeks! We fished Jan 14,15,16,17,20 and 22nd! Wahoo was the main target everyday (not tuna (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?SEARCHTERM=tuna&MODE=TERM_SEARCH))! Out of all of the days, we were only able to find wahoo three days! When its good, its good but boy when slow, its very slow! I am only talking about the wahoo! The bottom fishing is as good as you can hope for! Plenty of big amberjack (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=1) to go around and we are able to find a few grouper (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?SEARCHTERM=grouper&MODE=TERM_SEARCH) here and there!

We are patiently waiting for our winter tuna bite to kick off! The big yellowfin (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=82) should show up any day now! On calm days, we can run far and pick up yellowfin! They are all small fish (25-35 pounds) but seems to be plenty around! I have not been able to run far in the last week or so due to weather!

We got kicked off Friday the 14th in the new boat, Jeff's crew really wanted wahoo but we could not find one that would eat anything! We finished up the day on grouper! I think we ended up with 2 amberjack, nine or ten grouper and the new #3 state record bearded brotula (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=89)!

Saturday we had one of our good customers on the boat, Clint's crew from north Louisiana! We were able to find the hooters and went 5 for 7 on good wahoo! We finished up the day with a limit of amberjack! This time of the year we will use big mullet (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?SEARCHTERM=mullet&MODE=TERM_SEARCH) or hardtail if we can find them to catch our aj (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=1)'s! To my suprise there seems to be a lot of bait around.

Sunday and Monday we had David's Crew on the Looney Tuna! These guys wanted tuna or wahoo, tuna not happening unless you can go far, seas to rough so we went in search of wahoo! Again, could not find even one to eat! We landed a nice limit of amberjack and went to check out our east tuna area to see if there were any early arrivers but only found kings! Todd would not let us leave without landing a few of- what he calls the greatest fish ever, ha ha! I had to give him a hard time but we had fun landing a few! After no go on the tuna, we were able to stick a few grouper on ice but never got into them good like we had only a couple days before! Sunday's plan was to fish for wahoo all day! We found a couple early! First fish broke off due to the braid digging into the spool and causing somewhat of a birdsnest! Sounded like a shot when that thing popped! After working an area pretty hard with only one fish on ice, I decided to move west about 35 miles and fish it all the way over there! The next fish didnt come til we were all of the way west! We boated one and one came unbuttoned at the boat! We ended up loosing another one early in the fight! Tough day on the water, finished up with 2 hooters!

We fished with Mark's Crew Thursday the 20th! You guessed it, we were looking for wahoo! Started to the east, fished all of the way to the west, about a 200 mile round trip - No wahoo!! We were able to run across a ton of big hardtail and fill the baitwell! Big amberjack were soon to follow! I think we ended the day with a good limit of amberjack and a few grouper and brotula!

Saturday, Aaron had a few of his buddys that booked with us last year! I felt bad last year because we had nailed the wahoo the two days before! We had caught nine wahoo two days in a row then Shawn's crew fished and we only got one! Lets just say it was payback saturday! First spot of the day, this crew put almost a 70 pound hooter on the Looney Tuna! Best wahoo for us this year! This was the only fish that we found there! The seas were kicked up good, probably 3-5 ft, maybe even a 6 footer every now and then! It was a hard decision to pick up and move 25 miles into a head sea but it turned out to be the right move! We landed 4 more wahoo and watched one rip the split ring and hook off of a bomber at the boat! With 3 sick, i figured this crew was done! I asked if they wanted to catch amberjack and they just said bring it on! We boated a nice limit and even made another stop for wahoo on the way back in! A limit of amberjack and 5 wahoo, thats what we ended up with! Nice job on that big fish! Aaron and I had a blast!

Wahoo fishing is unpredictable but if you want to catch them, you just have to put in the time! You will strike out a few days but when you get into them, it is worth it! We pull Braid Marauders, Bomber cd30's, Mann Stretch 30's! Also, ballyhoo (http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=133) is good to use! Most days they will eat anything that you throw at them, as long as they want to eat!

We still have openings in February and March! The new Freeman 33 is awesome! You will love it! The big tuna should show up any day now! We will probably go far this weekend if the weather acts right! Will let you know what we find! Lets go fishing!

So well find another date.
Y'all gonna have a spooky trip with all the fog this weekend. But maybe the big tuna will show up.
Had a report from a friend n Biloxi, they have a big cabo n Venice. They got on 80-100# tuna. But 80 miles out.
All the wahoo u want closer in.
