Shooing for new gun

Something to consider....... is this "very stubborn" woman, 98 lbs soaking wet or shall we say 120++. You don't want a rifle that kick so much that she will be scared when shooting the rifle.

I have been shooting a .243 cal rifle for 25 years and never felt like I needed anything bigger. This gun does require good shot placement or you may not recover the Deer.

I would think the 7mm-08 would be a rifle to consider. You can get the "managed" recoil bullets for that caliber which shoot more like a .243 cal rifle or shoot the regular bullets and have more knock-down power than the .243.

A 270 cal is another good all around rifle to consider.

If you are a Remington person take a look at the Model 7, its the same as the Model 700 but alittle more compact with shorter barrel and butt and you can get it in several differnt rounds or Ruger makes a Ranch rifle that is compact.

my mom shoots a .270 and has killed her fair share of deer. She is about 120lbs, and when she first started hunting was pretty scarred of shooting but once she started putting down deer she completely forgot about the kick. I also think that she has the Sims Vibration Labrotory recoil pad which requires cutting an 1" or so to the stock and mounting in the factory but pad's place.

Those managed recoil rounds claim to reduce recoil by 50% without changing your flight trajectory from regular loads. Supposed to be really good stuff.

Don't overlook the 25-06. My son used one for mule deer killed a very nice buck-one shot at 225 yards on a deer that dressed out at 220 lbs. The issue with the 7mm-08 and the 25-06 is the availability and price of the ammo.

I shoot managed loads in my 7mag. It makes a difference. No change in placement at 150 yards from normal loads.

Less powder is compensated with a lower grain bullet.
