Made another trip with Robert and his group from Shreveport Friday out of the Point and the weather were very questionable. We got a late start we didn’t under way until about 6:00 am and we had rain and lighting right out of South West Pass and to the east and west of us that I was watching very closely. We made is to the mouth of the gulf and we decided to stop and see what this weather was going to do. We sat in the pass for about 30 minutes and the rain had lightened up where we needed to go so we decided to head out and once we got a few miles into the Gulf it got pretty choppy from all the squalls. We traveled another 10 miles got into the squall it had light rain nothing too bad and it got calm like glass we traveled another 8 miles got on the outside of the squall sun was out and it was still extremely calm and beautifully. We went to a few of our rigs that produce good snapper and we were hooked up again with some big fish. In the mist of snapper fishing we were able to catch quite a few nice Lemon Fish only landed two of them but both of them were some nice size Lemon fish. Once we got our snapper we rigged up for mangrove it was getting late in the day but wanted to try to put more fish in the boat. We were about to land another eight Mangrove probable lost at least that many if not more by either popping the line or broke the hook. Those Mangroves give you an extremely good fight. I have two kids onboard with me they were brothers and neither of them had ever been fishing that far offshore both of them had a great time and I enjoyed watching them catch some nice fish. Robert and his crew come back with 250lbs of fish that we had to clean. I was glad to see that last fish on the cleaning table yesterday.
It looks like the weather this week will be unsettled this week. I have canceled my charter for today and will probable have to do the same for Tuesday and Wednesday due to the forecast that NOAA is giving.
