new boat X22B?

I am looking at trading in my HD22B for the X22B which has the hyperlift hull. This boat has a 150 4 stroke and I think it may be rated for a 200. Dry weight of boat is 1,700 pounds. I am wondering if loaded with ice chest, 3 men, 40 gallons of fuel if the 150 is enough for this boat. I went on the Yamaha web site and saw where they did a test with this exact set-up and it showed to be fine. I would appreciate if anyone has any info or feedback. I see most 24' fiberglass bay boats which are rated for 300HP that most have a 225HP. I am thinking that if they can get by with the 225HP then I should be able to get by easliy with the 150HP.

Angler I agree with what you are saying. My whole thing is the fact is it worth more paying 2.5-3K for the 200 HPDI over the 150 4 stoke. For example, I have a chevy with the 4.8 liter engine and I have a friend that has the 5.3 or how many 24" fiberglass bay boats do you see with 225HP when rated for 300HP. Yes if all the same price I would likely go with the 200 HPDI. I have 150 HPDI on my boat niow. However, that 4 stroke 150 is a sweet motor. I am just using this as an example. As I mentioned I went on line to the Yamaha site and it show at 5900 rpm with the 4 stroke 150 I will do 50 where with the same test the HPDI 200 at 5500 (since that is the max RPM for HPDI) was 56mph plus you are using 15% more fuel with the HPDI. Plus I will add a 6" jack plate.

Depends on where you FISHING??? Big Lake I would take more Trolling motor than Boat Motor!!! That 150 will roll 35mph loaded!!! Thats plenty of speed unless your racing!!

Based on the Yamaha test and from talking to a friend of mine that has an X21B with a 150 he stated that with 3 in the boat and gear he can do 46-48mph. Also, he does not have jack plate. Although I live in BR I fish Big Lake a lot. But recently I have started fishing the rigs/Dularge area. This is the bid reason for my up grade to the Hyper-lift hull and right now if you have the money it is a buyers market for boats. I will more than likely do the deal tomorrow for the X22B with the 150 4 stroke.

i would go with the yamaha F150 over the HPDI 200 if it saved me a few thousand and got better mileage.



i know the most popular power for the standard pathfinder 22 is the F150 (not the TE model)

you should get 45+ fully loaded no problem

i don't know much about these hulls

the website lists the max hp at 150 for the x22

i would be willing to bet it will do 50ish light with the prop work done.

The Hyperlift hull on the Xpress bay boats are the same that they put on the bass boats. It is .125" thick compared to my HD hull which is .10 thick plus it has a V with a pad. Totally different boats. Thanks for the info. Also, Pathfinders are very nice boats. I will add a 6" jack plate. I find they are nice looking boats but they handle a chop nice. Now I do not think as good as a 22" fiberglass but I am able to pick this boat up for 26K list price with all the extras. However, I am still trying to get the dealer to throw in the jack plate.

One last thing I am up grading from a 70 to an 80# troll motor. I agree it is worth it for $ 200 extra.

Don't let your old lady talk you out of it. The extra's you get with this boat will add comfort on the ride and may be you will learn how to fish out of a more comfortable boat.

I know this thread is a bit old but it has a lot of the information I was searching for. I am looking at purchasing a 2010 Xpress X22B and have a couple of questions still to get answered.

1. This is the most important question...I currently own a 2007 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd truck with the 5.3L V8 Crewcab. Do you think it would pull this size boat out of the water alright?

2. How would this boat do if say I wanted to fish in Venice one weekend and then go to Toledo Bend or Red River the next?

I pull a 22 foot fiberglass empty weight >2500 lbs on a tandom trailer. I pull it from 45 miles north of Alex to Big Lake and Cameron. I have the chevy 1/2 ton with the V-6. I have not had any problems with pulling the boat out of the jetties landing, or out of a couple of landings in Hackberry, or the landing in Montgomery or St. Maurice.

I have one and have taken it Lake P several times. Lake P can get pretty rough quick. My friend has a 1500 Chevy 5.3 and pulled it fine. Even pulled it out of the launch fairly easy, not as easy as my F250. The boat will do fine in Venice and if you can afford the gas for the haul to Toledo Bend it will work. The Yamaha F150 will run 48mph loaded and give you great fuel milage. Go for it.

:confused: What do you mean and where? Since I have never owned a Bay boat I have not been in a lot of areas and I'm not quite sure where you are referring to?

T-tops are nice but you will have limited access to some places. I would go with a bimini top if you have a family. You can get a canvas bimini for around $250 .

I had aluminum tunnel hull with a t-top. I thought I could make it through, I ended up having to take the t top off with socket set and throw it on bank so I could go through weir! That was back when I couldn't catch trout!

Yeh she gets it's pretty good but really not as fast as u would think. Boat is pretty heavy duty. It was a former warden boat. Prob close to 50 mph dry. I bet if I changed my prop it would get it better!

Xpress will only put a Yamaha F150 or a 200 HPDI unless they changed the spec since 2008. I would like to put a bigger motor on mine but that will have to wait til warranty is up.

Think about the t-top being in the way when you are casting. I would go for a bimini which is lower and will provide more shade than the t-top

get a hinged t-top one that folds down.

yeh i kept it off. put it back on just to sell it. its not worth it. it really doesnt provide much shade, gets in the way, and doesnt block much rain.

Truck will pull with no problem. I use to bass fish, now that i have a center console, even if i would go back to bass fishing i would use the same boat. It is much more comfortable to fish out of. It is perfect for the Bend and River.

Thanks everyone for all the great replies. Since the dealer sold the one I was looking at I think I will wait until after the tax man :grinpimp: gets paid and then look again in April or May. I will keep you all posted!!!
