From what I've heard it will replace the VMAX HPDI Series II. I do not expect there to be a regular and "salt water" edition as Yamaha hasn't done that in years. No word yet on the shaft length other than 20 inch which may limit the salt water applications. I've gotten my last 2 boats from Yamaha factory pros and have been intouch with them about it. I currently have a 2008 VMAX HPDI Series II 250 with around 165 hours, the waranty just started in June of this year, and may be swappping it out for this motor after they run it for their first few events. Both boats have been Ranger Intracoastals and use 20 inch shafts.

The only 25" shaft Yamaha makes that is a DI (HPDI) motor is the 200 HP. All the others 150-300 HP are 20" shafts! Also, the HPDI series 2 range from 200-300 HP. There is no difference in the motors between saltwater or freshwater except for the shaft size.

There not out yet but I would think 14-16k....The main reason there going all fourstroke is because the epa is making all the engine company's get rid of 2 strokes. In the next few years outboards are going to have catalytic converters like vehicles.

The new V-8 inboard and inboard/outboard engines are starting to have catalytic converters on them already.
