Running out of room in my backyard and wifey wants to plant a garden. Thinking about a feed trough with drain holes drilled in bottom and fill with soil. Can move with 4 wheeler or lawn mower and drag to curb when her gardening itch is over. 27"x10'x18"

Im over all weeds !!! So if my weeds get in your flowers, plants, etc... Remember I kill weeds for fun!!

I believe it would wok fine. If it doesn't, just patch the holes and you are done.

You would be better off and cheaper using 5 gallon buckets. 1 plant per bucket

Get a bigger yard so you can plant a garden away from the other stuff

Ray you may run into trouble with tall plants(maters) that need support. Its not gona be deep enough for you to stake them solidly. Can always run some heavy wire around the outside to support the plants though.

I'm thinking about securing cages through the bottom, drill holes and wrap end of cages (twist). Not sure how thick that plastic is though.

I've owned troughs just like the one in the picture. I think the plastic is thick enough that if the ends of the cage are through and secured, that the plastic will hold it in place. If there is a failure (strong wind, dog, etc.) it will be due to the cage pulling up and out from the wire straightening out, not from the plastic failing. I can't see how you get the cage wire through the plastic though after you fill with dirt. The plastic is too thick just to force the wire through. You'll need to drill holes, and there's no way to hit the holes through the dirt.

Raymond, google kidde pool garden its the same concept as the trough idea. Shallow rooted stuff like herbs and peppers should do great. A bush or patio variety of tomatoe would do good in there too.
