That's too fast on the water for this white boy!! Especially after nearly getting thrown out of my boat doing only 30 mph by hitting something under the water.

My dad was always into bass fishing and had several FAST boats up to 100mph. It only takes one time to hit something to make you calm down. My dad uses a aluminum boat now that tops at 45mph. :D

Its a 4 blade Prop.....Not sure the brand or pitch... Have to go look

LaAngler
12-22-2009, 03:22 PM
the rpm to speed ratio seems off but i know i saw around 43 or 44 at around 4,000 rpm. i dont know how accurate those analog tachometers really are.

i personally saw 61.5+ then looked away and we were gaining speed still before shutting down. unless he turned the gps on in the truck we did 64.8 with fishing gear.

isn't the max speed reset after each time the unit is powered down?

I'm not doubting it, well maybe just a little. I can believe the 44mph at 4000 rpm. That boat must be light as a feather to go that fast with 3 people and fishing gear. I've got a 4 blade prop also. My boat with a 200 vmax hpdi will get 3 to 4 mph over what ever rpms I'm running.

My boat is probably a little heavier than yours though.

Boat weights 1400 Motor is a 225 Opti Max..... It was tested at top speed of 63mph.........we were real light on fuel less than a quarter tank........

I rest the max speed that morning......It was on 63.1..before.......

the difference may be that the pathfinder does not have a pad

edit, i see the haynie is lighter than a pathy but the hull design makes it ride better imo

Whoa, whoa, whoa La. Maybe makes the ride faster, I wouldn't say better. With a hull that lite I would gladly race W in a 2' chop quartering into the bow. Any day, any time.

I have a Cobia, which is the same hull as the Pathfinder, comes out of the same mold, but thicker fiberglass and higher sides.
I have rode in a 24 Pathfinder out of Leeville also.
The Haynie rides just as good or better in rough water. I was very surprised cause it is so light. The best thing about the Haynie is that you can customize how you want the topsides to look. Factory boats you cannot.

that haynie is easily compared to the blackjack. IMO I like the black jacks sides, rather than being short like his..

the wood is really no problem unless its used in the transom. almost all boats mg's that say no wood still use wood for the consoles and other non structural parts of the boat. as long as the stringers and transom are glass it should be good to go.

that boat is light for having any kind of wood in it. Ive always heard that a 3 blade has a better top end than a 4 blade. If this is true, hate to see what it would do then. I have a 22' pathy with 200 hpdi. When it was new I had gotten 63 gps out of it, with only me in the boat,15 gal. of gas and a lifejacket.lol since then I added lots of goodies and gear to it. Now, more in the 54-56 range. 63 is terrifically fast for all the stuff you got in that boat. That rocks.

Ray
12-22-2009, 11:56 PM
If you have wood in the floors and decks, you need to be sure to keep all screws
tight and sealed. I keep a boat at Olmsted Shipyard in Lake Charles and they are
always cutting out decks and replacing rotten wood.
Insurance will not pay for rotten wood or water in decks. Once the water gets in
the wood, it is very labor intensive to get it out.
The newer wood is more water resistant, but it can still rot. You just have to make
sure all the screws are tight and sealed. Can't say that enough.
I had a friend who used to fish offshore with me in a Welcraft and his center console
screws got loose from the pounding. His whole coring had to be changed out.
Boats are worse than anything about having to be kept up.
Wax, flush, clean, seal, wash, ect...
There is nothing easier than an aluminum jon boat. But they make noise and pound
too much.

4 blade will give it a better hole shot & better handling, 3 blade will give it better top end & not as good hole shot, but with a light boat like W's a 3 blade may still have a pretty good hole shot with top end speed.

Montauk17
12-23-2009, 11:49 AM
That's not 100% true....A 3 blade tuned to the boat will have better holeshot then any 4 blade. As far as handling goes, yes the 4 blade will be better.

LaAngler
12-23-2009, 12:05 PM
4 blade allows you to jack the engine up higher without cavitation also, very useful in tunnel boats
