We listen to rock station on the way there. But on the way home we jam some cajun music on 88.7 public radio.

I like to listen to Enya on the way there, the harvesting of an animal as mystical as a spoonbill can only be fully taken in by the music of Enya. Beethoven's 2nd when coot hunting though:)

huntin fool 11-08-2011 02:49 PM

Yall can't let this thread die. Only a few hours til we blast em... 3 days...lol

SaltERedneck 11-08-2011 02:52 PM

boooooom. rain tonight.... weekend clear. then a rain prediction for monday through thursday. If any of you are slackin in the water situation like me here is a chance. If we get a steady rain I just might be set for next weekend. Thanks to DGG this weekend isnt a total bust!

yeah he is... 4 days of rain and one full day of pumping might make a dent... who knows. I am hunting opening day with good friends from saltycajun and thats all that matters.

Micah 11-08-2011 06:12 PM

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhh, that's how pumped I am!!!!

Micah 11-08-2011 06:16 PM

Ok, serious post now. Do yall agree that if they closed the season for one year that the duck population would skyrocket?

2nd question. If they asked everyone to vote on doing this and knowing that the following year would be the best year in ages.....what would you vote?

jchief 11-08-2011 06:26 PM

Serious or not, most of you would be in jail before the year was over with.............

jchief 11-08-2011 07:29 PM

I could do it as long as deer season iw open.

Better question is what effect would this closing have on a ten year period?

Ha, I was getting on here to change the question to if it had a long term affect...

It would be the toughest thing to do ever

Yes I agree

I would vote no because:
1. I would go to Jail like Jude said
2. What would I obsess about for the few months before and talk about for the few months after
3.It would hurt the local economies of lots of small towns who depend on hunting

Dink 11-08-2011 08:13 PM

I'd vote no!!

I just hope the gators are gone.......

huntin fool 11-08-2011 08:20 PM

1. I'd be in Jail.
2. I'd be an escapee, being Im fairly positive I can fit between the cell bars..
3. I'd go right back to shooting ducks.

On a side note, I just got another 3 dozen decoys. Can Saturday hurry up?

Micah 11-08-2011 09:31 PM

My cousin and I had this discussion the other day is why I'm asking. A lot of the same points are being brought up. I will say I'm a little undecided. I know it would kill me knowing it should be duck season and I can't kill em. I think if it happened I would have to dove hunt a lot and maybe take up deer huntin. The other thing I said was it would never happen, waaayyyyy too much money in duck hunting and the communities surrounding it. It would be interesting to see what kind of difference it would make though.....

Ducedux 11-08-2011 09:49 PM

Ducks are in some ways like corn. If you don't harvest your small crop this year it doesn't mean you will have a bumper crop next year. Nesting ground water and survival rate are what matters. If you don't have rain in the spring up north, you won't have many ducks in the fall. Also, if you have a 80 to 90 percent mortality rate you won't have many ducks. I think that the real problem in SWLA is the lack of crops being planted. When the rice fields started to turn into cow pasture the ducks slowly stopped staying in La. Alot of ducks still make it here every year but with nothing to keep em why should they stay? Would you keep going back to Mc Donalds if all they served was ice water? Without food in SWLA, the duck hunting will never be what it was in the 80's. But the most important thing is that if duck hunting is ever closed, anti hunters will NEVER let it open open back up. Just my thoughts.

I agree with everything you said....I'm just talking about a "best case scenario" where no one hunts them and they have an amazing year of breeding up north and the results of this "scenario" are the best hunting you could imagine.....would you then agree to do it?
