Alright, I got some answers about Wyatt's gas exchange and the reasons why it was not as good as the last time he was re-intubated. Apparently, the doctors are trying a little different method of ventilation, while this method is slower at gas exchange studies show that the re-inflation of his lungs should last longer. This new technique is a testament to Wyatt's body having the ability to correct some of the effects caused by this slow gas exchange. It is sort of good news that the doctors are trying this method. The doctors have started diuretics on Wyatt to relieve some of the fluid that they believe has built up in the lungs. They are hoping with this treatment coupled with the new method of ventilation they will be able to try cpap again soon. Wyatt seems to be reacting well to the drugs so far so keep your fingers crossed. Everything else is going good we found out Wednesday that wyatt's first eye exam showed no damage to his retinas. I am sorry I went into major detail on this update but I am planning on going back one day and reading all these updates as a reminder and I want to remember the technical stuff too. Here are a few pics of Wyatt from this morning. As always, thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Such a precious lil baby.

Thanks Stan, this is something we can agree on.

Never too much detail or info. I enjoy the updates. After I red this one I had tears in my eyes because I can hear the love and concern for your son. I can't wait for post on his adventures at home. Still praying for y'all.

I start squallin' everytime I see one of these pics. I usually don't read the updates because I only want good news.

It appears that the diuretics are helping Wyatt's lung recovery. The doctors have lowered him on his vent settings from 35 to 15 breaths per minute over the last three days. The doctors also increased his feeds from 6.5 ml to 7 ml per hour. Everything seems to be on schedule as far as they are concerned so we are good too. Hopefully this trend continues I think Wyatt is ready to start growing and get ready to come home!

Great news and the faith up. He feels that. Praying for y'all.

Update on Wyatt. Sorry it has been a while but work got busy again for the last time this year. Wyatt has been doing pretty good lately. The other day Wyatt decided he wanted to try cpap again so he pulled his vent tube out. He has been doing ok on his third attempt on cpap and we are hopeful that he will make it this time. Wyatt has gained more weight and is knocking on three pounds weighing in at 2 lbs 13 ounces! On an another note I went fishing for the first time since October. Didn't set the world on fire but managed a few on the fly!

Almighty God,
bless this dear child,
born before their time,
yet made in your image
and perfect in your sight
and Father, we ask that if it be
Thy will, that this beautiful
infant grow stronger and
healthier with each passing day.
Give us, O Lord, the strength
to entrust to your care,
this precious little child
so very much beloved,
and grant us the grace
to pray as Jeasus taught us,
that 'Thy will be done'.

Little man is looking good!!!! A "pink" baby is a healthy baby!!!!! Always remembered that from one of my old docs that taught me so much while in my paramedic classes. Old Dr. Charlie Prejean sure is missed and as for as a "teaching" doctor, he ran circles around everyone. I called him from the hospital in Deridder, LA one morning when I was picking up a premie and told him what I was looking at, what the attending had done and what I thought needed to be done. His response, "Foti, quit wasting my time, do what you think needs to be done and get that baby pink". - "Then haul your a** hear"!
Take this time to start reading on infant CPR, they won't let you leave w/ him till you know it, and start stocking up on batteries, he will probably be on a apnea monitor at home just as a precaution. Once he gets home he will grow like a weed and be able to rest well. He is looking great!!!!! Call me anytime if you have any questions or don't understand what is being said to you and I will try to help out in anyway possible.

P.S.- Are you ready to shave??????
