Finished going through the decoys and stringing up a few new ones today. It's time for the season to kick off.

I think hunting with with a good dog is one of the best parts of duck hunting.

Waited a little late to do it, but I usually touch up all my dekes that need it with paint yearly. Instead, this year I've bought all the stuff to flock with. I've only got about a dozen pin drake heads done so far, but that only took about 15 minutes by myself. Only got about 50 more heads to go then I'll flock all the black on the drakes, then touch up the white and everything else with paint. Pic doesn't rlly do any justice, they look great in direct sunlight though. Will do all my greenheads also after the pins.

Haven't painted anything on those few yet, just flocked the heads. But it's just rustoleum enamel that acts as the adhesive for the flock. I think that color was leather brown. If you wanted to do a green head then just get the matching enamel color to your flocking. Does it help? Eh, idk. Probably doesn't hurt though.

It's November! Went to the GC marsh...coulda used my bay boat to get around, water everywhere! Did see a few flights around the area though. I'm sure we'll get a few shots opening weekend. Looking forward to a weekend at the camp with our sons along with cookin', having a cocktail or two and watching a great football game. Dead ducks and go Tigers!

Heading to the marsh tomorrow to finish brushing a blind. Will post what we see. West of PI.

Also anybody around the PI area come check out the DU banquet at the old school Friday night. Will be serving a steak dinner. Doors open at 6. Great way to kick off the season. I can set you up with tickets or a table

Was in the marsh yesterday pulling a go devil up that got sunk. We still have water everywhere and it's really high. Hopefully the few days of north winds this week will push the water down. But did see some nice flocks of birds.

We have a surplus of 3 things on the lease: Water, Coots and Squealers
I can live with the Coots and Squealers.

I'm not setting my hopes real high for Saturday; our weather is much different than last year.
I remember driving home after the opening day hunt on Saturday and seeing all the ducks in the Burns; it was unreal.

Mallards were everywhere right off the side of the road; I've never seen em like that before.

Either way, I'm pumped ready to go and just be out in the marsh.

My son Hunter was deer hunting at the Delta 2 weeks ago and on the way home threw a rod on the engine of my Prodrive. It's in the shop now and with 160 hours Briggs is refusing to honor my warranty. I used Mobil 1 synthetic oil in the engine and they are saying it was inappropriate oil!? Heck of a thing to happen this close to the season. Now I get to buy a new engine for it. I hope the shop can get it installed this week before I get home. Talk about piss you off. I can't imagine that Mobil 1 oil would cause this engine to do that. When the shop checked the oil level it was fine prior to disassembley. Makes you think ***.

Went to Holly Beach Sunday to patch a hole in the boat and brush, highest water I've seen since we've had the place. Didn't get there until around noon but saw a good bit of gads flying around, one big flock of redheads, and zero teal. Looks like the spoons won't be so lucky this opener..

That sucks. What oil do they say you are supposed to use?

I haven't had that conversation yet. I've been thinking it over and I am certainly going to dispute this decision by them. I've reviewed the manual and warranty and no where in either does it advise against using synthetic oil. Reading on the internet tells me that a oil high in Zinc would be best for an air cooled engine. Makes me mad that they don't tell you this stuff when you buy an engine.

Set and ready at the lodge. Not real excited to see my strap on Saturday. High water, and not a lot of birds in creole. Big difference in the pond before and after that big rain. Attachment 97429Attachment 97430Attachment 97431

What lodge do you speak of?
And y'all still green lillies everywhere?
All of ours have died off
