Remington 870 Super Mag, decent gun, if you decide this direction, throw away factory chokes, get some Kick's High Flyer, your choice of choke size EF,F,M, great combo!!! First used gun with round steel, could not hit anything, one or two Sandhills and a bonus goose per box of shells, Got the Kick's HF and ratio went way up, and even has less recoil... I don't carry my Citori 525 for pheasants anymore either, this set up works well, and equally deadly on dove too. These tubes are not recommended for Flight Stopper Wads, but great with Lead and Steel.

Just bought the Beretta 3901 for $599 and love it. Thought about getting something that shoots 3.5" shells, but have been hunting for years without them and never NEEDED them so just went with the 3901 that only shoots 2.75" and 3". Put 200 rounds through it last weekend at the skeet range and loved it.

870 Wingmaster!!! I've got 2; a 20 and a 12 ga. I've had since mid 70's (bought both same day); both work and shoot good as new and they've had probably a 100+ boxes of shells each run through 'em and all I've ever done is clean after each use....

I have a mossberg 500 that has been used for everything from killing ducks to push polling a pirouge to leverage to get my big arse up out of waste deep mud and never had any problems with it. Just rinse it off when I get to clean water and it is ready to go. I also have the mossberg 835 and it is good also but don't like the ported barrel.

Man, I read your post and started thinking you killed a lot of teal or doves or you just could not shot. Then I finish reading that your 200 rounds were at a skeet range. LOL

I have a Franchi Variomax. Great Gun!!! They don't make it anymore. They are now making I-12 which is an Inertia operated auto. They are owned by Benelli. The I-12 is a 3" gun.

Remington Is coming out with a New Auto. Check it out. Not sure of the name.

Hope this helps!

Strange......mines been kicking it for quite some time now.
Wingmasters are much nicer but I wouldnt go as far as saying the express will fail when it is one of the better shottys you can buy in that price range

I agree, know lots of guys that have been shooting 870 express for 10+ years without 1 hickup and not to mention treating them like crap.

Had mine for 15+ years. 3 of those years I used it guiding.

Still going strong

The 870 express is the best gun for the money hands down. I got a 20 yr old one that still functions fine today.

LPfishnTIM 09-28-2011 09:22 PM

870 will rust like crazy, gotta keep a coat of oil on it, I put some iosso gun polish on mine to keep it from rusting but good gun, just bought a steoger o/u

I agree that for the money express is the best. But for a couple extra 100 u could get a real nice gun in the wingmaster. Mine has been through everything still keeps shuckin. I've had some trouble with both my expresses. Having to slam the butt down to eject shells. Not to mention the wingmaster is lighter.

Ditto. These guns are great. I have one and I have a Mossberg 835. I've hunted 835's for a long time and have had really good luck with them. Buddy of mine talked me into trying an auto a couple of years ago. My 835 now collects dust. I keep in case I ever need to shoot 3.5's. Both good guns but I really like shooting that Beretta, and for the money, it's a he'll of a deal.

i have an 870 remington express magnum (2-3/4 & 3") and sold the wood stocks for $60 to a friend who "needed" them and bought a set of camo synthetic stocks for $55........... not a bad deal.
