I use 800 grit sand paper between my blades hold it on the top side of the blades and turn knife on run it up and down the blades after this you could filet a pine tree it really puts a good sharpen on them after cleaning a lot of fish

I use the black HB one ...cleans hundreds of fish (no reds just trout) and never gets hot ...

American Angler with the Shark blades is the way to go and it works great on Reds. After burning up way too many Green Mister Twisters I finally went to American Angler and won't go back.

DWA 08-16-2012 08:42 PM

Clean alot of reds and the best knife i've had was an american angler, just threw away a brand new saltwater mister twister; it sucked. Need to get me a new american angler, last one lasted for ever.

I think the American Angler has metal gears, where as the MS has plastic. My last few MS burned up quick. My American Angler seems to be lasting like MS used to last in the 90's.

my boss made a electric fillet knife took a dexter blade and made it to fit on a rigid recip saw you can cut the fillet of a red in a couple seconds and not have to worry bout it burning up, just watch the fingers!
