Go get a switch from o'reilly........run some new wire and hook it up ie:hard wire it......I did it w/ my trim when the button broke........lasted longer than original......It'll cost you what 7 or 8 bucks?? This is a no-brainer

Jordan 10-27-2009 01:37 PM

There are 4 different big wires. I'm no electrician either. Electrical is my weakness.

You also don't have to use the warn solenoid. We used use the old ford solenoids on our 8000lb warns. It took 4. 2 on the forward side & 2 on the reverse side. A small winch should only need 2. One on for forward & one for reverse. They used be only bout $12, Probably no more than $20 now.

What kinda solenoid and what wires go where? Help me out guys. This crap is aggravating.

Dink 10-27-2009 01:57 PM

Bring it next time you come to town and we'll hook it up bulletproof!!! Oh and get ins. on it incase I burn it down...........

It's kinda hard without being there. We know one thing.
Black is power
Blue is out
Yellow is in
You don't have anyone with a little electrical background or mechanic?

Were on the same page...........it's getting power so all he needs is to hook up those 3 leads to a switch...........black in the middle and in and out on whichever side he wants.........I used a switch that didn't stay up or down, when I let it go, it bounced back to the middle.......I'm sure there's a name for such thing...........

Momentary On
It does not stay on. It only stays on while you hold the switch down.

Jordan, If you have electric motor & or (perferably) a starter shop around they can show or hook you up in seconds. He can even tell you what solenoid will work.

Jordan 10-27-2009 02:15 PM

Just any solenoid ?

Dink 10-27-2009 02:18 PM

Read it again Jordan

longsidelandry 10-27-2009 02:18 PM

I would just put a switch like Dink said, you can't go wrong with that. It would just be taking the place of the solenoid.

Ray 10-27-2009 02:30 PM

I juss splained Dinks switch idear to him in Redneck.
He is going to an auto parts store and to find a heavy duty 3 blade 2 position momentary switch and bypass the solenoid.
The #6 wires go from the back of the 4 wheeler behind the seat all the way up
to the front of the 4 wheeler. He should have enough wire to fix dat.

wtretrievers 10-27-2009 02:32 PM

It would have to be one really heavy duty switch. That's alot of juice! That's what the solenoid is for. It's basically a heavy duty switch. The rocker or momentary switch sends a small amount voltage to your solenoid which engages & sends the main power through the solenoid to your winch. A regular rocker or momentary toggle switch won't handle it. You'll burn it up in seconds.

cabwiz2 10-27-2009 02:35 PM

here is a diagram or the solenoid just yours has 2 wires that plug into the switch instead of the 3 blades on the front. take this to a auto parts store and they can help you. http://www.montanajacks.com/instructions/WRN-65673.pdf

cabwiz2 10-27-2009 02:37 PM

here i found you one for 22 bucks

Ray 10-27-2009 02:52 PM

I tried to splain to him how to check his momentary switch also, but he didn't quite understand what I was talking about. I didn't want him to buy a solenoid if'n it was the switch or a broke/burnt wire between the two.

cabwiz2 10-27-2009 02:55 PM

Oh i just figured he had done that already. Well jordan do you have the hand held switch that came with it? if so hook it up and see if it works. and do you have a meter?

Ray 10-27-2009 02:56 PM

I just called him to tell him to come back online to look at your solenoid.
He will be here shortly.

He needs to get a cheap test light. They work wonders for 12 vdc.

cabwiz2 10-27-2009 02:58 PM

you can by a volt meter at harbor freight for like 5 bucks that work ok enough for this kind of bs and it has an ohm meter on it also.
