its not a garter snake, it is a Brown Snake. Much smaller than a Garter Snake, that's about as big as they get, found in gardens etc. It is about as harmless a snake as you can find. Garter Snakes have a much whiter background.

Yeh def not a garter snake. I have one that I caught 2 years ago that I still have today. My daughter wouldn't let me let it go. Pretty cool little guy. Like to watch him eat goldfish.

its an eastern worm snake, we grew calling them ground rattlers, NOT poisonous and harmless

Yeah, I wasn't too worried about it being venomous. I almost just stomped him out but decided to be nice.

It's called a Dekay's snake. google it. It's in the brown snake family, prolly cause you brown yur drawers when you find it. Startling to find them in the flower beds around the house, but they are harmless.
