If your idea of a field trial dog one that can fetch a bird from the shadow of a whitecoat at 500 yards, then you are.

Ducktrickster 07-24-2014 08:12 AM

Are any of these traits things that would be desirable in your huntingdog? Obedience, steadiness, focus, high prey drive, ability to mark a downed bird, ability to stay in the area of the mark and hunt until the bird is recovered, ability to take direction to an unmarked bird.

Ducktrickster 07-24-2014 08:15 AM

These are the same things that field trial trainers need. The training to develop the traits in dogs is exactly the same whether it is hunt test, hunting dog, or field trial. I hope this explains my posts.

I love dog threads.......Lets start making bets on whose dog is better, make up terms for existing words and talk about trial dogs even though only a hand full of people here have been to a sanctioned AKC FT.

Even a mediocre Trial dog will excel as a hunting dog. They can do both.

Oh and I wish that guy in the white coat would stay there (just for my dog of course). The long retired on the water is keeping us in the green instead of the blue.

Now we are on the same page. I couldn't determine which way you were leaning. I do respect field trial dogs and I do know that they do make good hunting dogs. I just wanna know why a man would frown upon a "ribbon" dog and trainer

bbrown 07-24-2014 02:43 PM

look back at previous threads......it gets ugly

Tjethro85 07-24-2014 02:47 PM

Guess I'll have to

Because "my dog is better than yours".. end of story.

I think the thread was ribbon vs rock dog, or somethin along those lines??

Yep. Another SaltyCajun classic

bbrown 07-24-2014 04:49 PM

I think everyone has switched from hating ribbon dogs to CCA/LDWF.

I'm thinking it will go in a cycle. Hunting season approaches, so its slowly going to season dates, dog trainers, DU, etc.. Gotta b***h about something lol

One cried, 3 lives threatened, the most absurd challenge ever, and 15 dogs quit retrieving altogether in that thread. Butt hurt galore.

People will cry

Tjethro85 07-24-2014 07:31 PM

If your dog does what you need him to do and you're not going stomp through the mud to get ducks or geese, I don't see where it matters what other people think. I've had people hunt with me and are really pleased with my dog and his work ethic.

Ducktrickster 07-25-2014 06:17 AM

Have a laugh D. Life isn't that serious and neither was that thread.
