I have owned two MKs the 70 and the one I have now which is the 80# Riptide Pro with the lift assist boot. Looks like MK made good on the troll motor. I think you just happen to get a lemon!

specktator 02-04-2010 04:07 PM

You must have. I was checking them out other day. Look pretty sweet to me. Never had one though. I like that shock on riptide. I have an 82lb 24v great white. My dad bought it. I wanted riptide. It gets job done though. Charge never seems to last though. Especially on windy days. I have changed batteries and everything

I have that feature on my MK 80#Riptide Pro....

My uncle I fish a lot with says the same about his. He has a 82# and he even tells me my MK seems to last longer on charge than his GW.

i called them this morning and talked to the guy working on it he told me that when i got my trolling motor back i would be happy. he said he was going to hook me up. I feel alot better about it now. they seem to be making it right. just set me back 50 to ship it. i would have spent a 100 though i was burnt out on that thing

yeh it's quite frustrating. You can def only make one day of fishing on fresh charge. Then gotta charge it that night again if u going next day.

I feel your pain Adamsfence. I bought a 80# Riptide SF after Christmas and finally got to use it on Tuesday. It maxes out at about 70% throttle and doesn't pull the boat any better than the 55# that was on it. I called MinnKota and was rudely told that no matter how big of a trolling motor I put on the boat, I will not get anymore speed ( I guess a 25hp on a 12 foot flat will run as fast as a 25hp on a 24 foot bay boat according to this guy's math). I finally interrupted the guy and told him it will not go to max power. He said the speed controller in the head was probably bad. I called a guy in Many and he laughed and said he wasn't surprised that it was broken out of the box. I wish it wasn't brand new because I would deep six it and buy an old 74# MotorGuide like the guy had on his boat doing circles around me.

Glad they made it right for you. I had a few problems with my 82 lb. riptide 3x when I first got it. Mainly a pin in the head kept shearing causing the head and the bottom of the trolling motor not to line it so you could not control it. I went through alot of frustration at the prop shop in Lafayette but we finally got it right. Nothing worse than a bad trolling motor when you get out on the water.

I have a 24v 82 gw on my boat that has never been put in the water. I've been debating on batteries for a while now. What brands have ya'll tried that have the same motor? I cant afford the gels or agms but I definitely want whatever is going to give me the longest charge in my price range

Check the water level of your batteries.
