Hang in there man! Our little boy was a premi as well and lungs were the talk for a long while. I guess it's common for boys that are born premature. I know what you mean about it seems like forever but, it's all gonna work out great! I could count the tiles to get to my son in the NIC Unit. Ya just didn't wanna look around and see what else was going on in there! My wife actually took pics of my little boy up to Woman's BR the other day as a thank you to the fine staff. He just made 4 and man, it has FLOWN by!

Keep us posted!

DUCKGOGETTER 10-29-2011 09:59 PM

Its got to be tuff to be in your shoes but next time you go in there and look at him take a look at some of them other babies that may not be doin as good and give God thanks agin for what he has gave you and what he is doin, and we will keep yall in our prayers.

This thread was edited to comply with PayPal's Acceptable use Policy. This error was 100% my fault. PayPal is still the best way to send money and make purchases on the internet.

If anyone would like a refund do to the fact that we can not say we are selling raffle tickets for $5.00 each to help out Lucas and family with what will surely be a huge financial burden, please send me a Site PM or email me at PaulMyers @ PCCSJM . com to request such refund.

Because we DO want to comply with PayPal's Acceptable use Policy we will no longer say that donations in $5.00 increments will go towards the the purchase of raffle tickets. I hope everyone understands and will continue to make donations to help out.

Thank you for your understanding,
Paul J Myers

DUCKGOGETTER 10-30-2011 01:26 PM

The donation is the main thing to this great group of guys. This family needs any help they can and i'm sure anyone on this site feels the same way and are willing to step up no matter what. Paul this is a great thing and i commend everyone who has done their part.

jchief 10-30-2011 01:29 PM

So, Paul, you are saying that Paypal does not allow the use of Paypal to sell raffle tickets for $5 each or in increments there of to help Lucas's family with medical expenses????

Yes that is correct, however we can still collect donations in increments of $5.00 from any and all persons wanting to make donations in such increments.

Hopefully everyone can understand how this is going to work without having to spell it out. If anyone needs further clarification then pm me or Paul.

Guys, I can't express enough how grateful my wife and I are. I can't believe y'all put this together for us and have raised so much money. Everyone has been so generous to us and it reminds me that there is still some good in this world.

Update on Wyatt:

We find out tomorrow whether or not Wyatt needs surgery to close up the PDA that has been open since his birth. The doctors assure us that this surgery is as routine as you can get, on a preemie. That doesn't do much to ease our nerves but the fact that he is doing well with everything else is comforting. All the prayers y'all are sending Wyatt's way seems to be keeping him going and he is doing as well as can be expected. Thanks again to everyone who has donated money and I can assure you this will go to a good cause.

PaulMyers 10-30-2011 09:47 PM

Everyone has been glad to pitch in!

That is great news about Wyatt! :)

Please keep us posted and if you need anything else, do not hesitate to ask. We're here for you and your family!

speck-chaser 10-30-2011 09:49 PM

Yall hang in there, and we will keep praying!!!

Dink 10-30-2011 10:52 PM

The surgery is "as routine as it gets" but is still scary.......did he get the steroids while still inside mom? If not, the surgery is very necessary .......that doesn't heel on its own often. Sounds like he's doin great! This is a hood sign. They wouldn't do this surgery on a "wimpy white boy" if he wasn't strong enough to endure it........this is a blessing in disguise!!!!

mcjaredsandwich 10-30-2011 11:01 PM

Amen to that. Prayers for the surgeons as well that their hands are steady and their minds are true. More prayers sent go the man above for comfort and peace for you and your wife as well as a healing hand on wyatt.

Tim, he did get about an hour of steroids but it wasn't enough to close the PDA. They have given him the three rounds of Indicine and we find out this morning if they closed it up. The first two didn't work so we are pretty sure it hasn't worked. You are right about them doing surgery on him and that meaning he is stable enough for it. It's funny about the "wimpy white boy" thing. I know it makes me laugh even though as the producer of said white boy it also makes me nervous.

For anyone who is wondering... they refer to preemie white boys as wimpy because they fair the worst when it comes to early birth. The doctor told me the morning of his birth that if he comes out a black girl I would be in much better shape. To that I agreed, stating that if this kid comes out black I wouldn't have to worry at all!

Backwards Kid's Mom 10-31-2011 03:42 PM

Glad to see you have kept your sense of humor during this stressful time Lucas...sometimes laughter does wonders for the soul and little man would probably enjoy hearing it. Continued prayers for Wyatt's growth, strength and healing!

I am blown away with the generosity of the people on this site. Thats all I can say.

An update: Wyatt is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to clamp off the PDA that refused to close with medication. This has been the thorn in his side for the last couple of days and I am glad it will finally be rectified. They did the brain scan today that we have been waiting for and it looks like he is sitting pretty good. We will get more official word tonight when we go visit but this is really good news. Everyone, if you would, say a few words for my little man tonight that his surgery goes well and he makes a speedy recovery. Thanks again everyone, y'all are proving why the South and outdoors people are some of the best people on this planet!

Here is a little up lift to Mediumheavy and his wife: I graduated high school in 1986 and was a EMT by the fal of 1986. I started driving an ambulance and entered school to become a paramedic in 1988. By 1990 I was a paramedic and in 1992 I was one of the first paramedics in a group to go through PALS (pediatric advanced life support) training which taught us to put an IV in the bone marrow of a patient to deliver fluids and medications among other things we would encounter with premmies.

Since that time of the early 90's, no other group has responded with a greater survival rate than the NICU. They are amazing and the medical staff I got to learn from were some of the best!!! The treatment of NEOnate patients is in direct respsonse to the baby itself, but unlike older patients, these babies are like the incredible hulk.

I have no doubt that Wyatt and his new friends in the NICU will one day be in pictures holding huge redfish on the fly here on the SC.

Wanted to share an update with everyone:

Wyatt had his surgery today at 12 to close off his PDA. The surgery went really well and he is recovering nicely as we speak. Hopefully now that this vessel is closed he can move forward and will be eating breast milk in no time. If we can move forward from here it will be looking good for my little man!

Bluechip 11-01-2011 05:20 PM
