You spend a lot of money but you can't buy catching ...lmao

fishinpox 01-18-2012 10:43 PM

I was out of control with the bait buying , my storage room looked like a wall at academy, 10 bags of this bait, 10 bags of this one ect... I'm done with that madness, this past summer I decided all I'm gonna use is curly tail grubs, spooks, and some catch2000 or corkys . Since I made that decision I prolly saved an easy 2-3000$ . My main expense is freakin gas just to trailer the boat a minimum of 1 hr 45min each way pulling a 24' boat blasting the ac. And now since I bought the bigger boat we have been snapper fishing so of course on those long runs I can ease off the throttle I "must" run wide open lol and get a whole 2mile/ gallon!

Well said, I use to always run wide open, that Verado was killing me. This fall I kept the RPM's at 4000 to 4300 and my speed stayed at 40 to 44 which was plenty. I saw a really big increase in fuel economy but it took me some time to get use to it. I even let a couple of boats pass me in the ship channel, it killed me but I was able to handle it. ;)

You have an 1.45 minute drive but living in Baton Rouge you have a ton of options.

Yeah I'm about to do that, put led lights on the trailer, get a custom cover made , put a jack plate and the new 10' power pole, getting her ready for the spring!

YellaBlazer 01-18-2012 11:02 PM

After reading this thread, I had to go check myself.

$16,100 for 2011. :shaking: That includes boat payments, fuel, baits and everything else. Whoever said fun ain't cheap wasn't lying!

Ray 01-18-2012 11:05 PM

I usually fill up the boat around every 4 or 5 trips.
But this winter, I fished around 20 times on the same tank.
Fish were close to the launch.

"W" 01-18-2012 11:06 PM

I really do not want to know.....
Camp
Boat
Gas
Baits
Food
150+ days on the water a year

something that loses value is an investment? now I know I wouldn't be taking any investment advice from you!

I pay $80 in fuel when I go to hopedale, $10 to launch, 15$ in food and snacks. I split that cost half the time I go. If I go with someone else I usually fish out a bigger boat and spend the same in gas, launch and food. I usually go three times a month that is $295. I usually spend on bass fishing $30 in bait, between plastics, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I usually spend about $350 for a rod and reel bout 3x a year. so thats 1050+360(tackle)+3540(gas,launch,snacks adv.)+ I usually spend $200 a year on boat maintance on my small 25hp johnson. that is just what I can think of = $5,150 yearly I also bought bigger truck last year, cost me 17k and my little boat I bought last year cost me $2500 that all equals $24,650

boatdriver 01-18-2012 11:17 PM

Roughly about $35,000+ a year, plus buying a third boat in three years. Over 175 days on the water. And that's just fishing alone.

You do not count, you "profit" on your trips. Living the dream, that is what you are doing...

"W" 01-18-2012 11:25 PM

When u buy a Hayine boat it is an investment....you think all this guys are getting new ones every year and losing money?????

You gotta mean you could sell it for "10grand", cause, surely you ain't sayin' you'd get "10grand" more than you paid for it.

Maybe 40 grand more than he paid for it. Kind of like a jersey worn by Jordan, just a Jordan jersey may only cost $80 but once he puts the jersey on you are looking at several times the orginal value. W has that type of impact. :help::help::help::help:

OK, the numbers are beginning to add up now. Thanks for the clarification.

PUREBAY2200 01-18-2012 11:42 PM

No boat will EVER sell for more then what was paid for it; except a repo boat.
There is no way any boat gains value after it is purchased!
Period!!

True. And a Haynie ain't no different...they're all just a hole in the water to throw money in.

PUREBAY2200 01-18-2012 11:44 PM

When I say a repo I mean buying it for cheap from a bank and then finding another buyer and upping the price to turn a profit.
Original price 40k
Buy from bank 20k
Sell to person for 28k
Profit 8k

I can get more than $10K over what I owe on mine too.
But that is not a profit.
Investment is supposed to be for profit.

I hope you typed that real slow so he has time to absorb all that you said!:rotfl::shaking:

Now, I wonder about these 35% returns!:smokin:

Back on topic. I don't recall a time that I've hooked up to a boat headed for the salt that didn't cost me at least $200 before the day was out. Normally, it's 4.5-5 hour round trip for me plus all the time on the water. A LOTTTTTT of fuel burned in the course of a day!

Dink 01-19-2012 09:30 AM

Corey, start saving now!! We gonna burn the fuel in a few months man!! And when the weekend is over, I'm gonna sell you my boat!!

Ready to burn fuel?...Check!
Ready to buy boat?...Not Check!
I can't even get you to make a deal on a gun safe!:rotfl:

"W" 01-19-2012 09:45 AM

I'm about to hit the lake and all it will cost me today is gas in truck...so about $25 to fish

So, you're gonna paddle the Haynie to where you plan to fish or are you doing the white bucket route today?

No. Already. Paid for gas in boat ....on my 5th trip

But, you had to pay for that fuel initially. If I filled my truck up with gas and drove to Big Lake for a fishing trip.....does this mean that the trip home didn't cost me any gas cause I already paid for it on the trip over?

PUREBAY2200 01-19-2012 11:55 AM

Hahahahah!! @ salty!!!
W needs to give a presentation on "when cost is incurred"!
And what is " profit"!

PUREBAY2200 01-19-2012 12:00 PM

Thanks to the "W System"
I bought a car 5 years ago for 25,000; paid it off in October.
Sold it today for 13,500.
I made 13,500!!!!

Thanks W!!!

Salty 01-19-2012 12:01 PM

Next time I go to Lake Charles, I'm gonna take a bus and buy a new truck over there to get back home. That way...the trip won't cost me anything.

Thanks W!!!

But, was there any gas in the tank when you sold it? Never mind....you already paid for it.

PUREBAY2200 01-19-2012 12:31 PM

So when I buy gas for 3.05 and it goes up to 3.25 and I still got gas n my tank..... I just made .20!!!
Bingo!!!!
I'm going to start buying gas on bulk and shorting the local gas station when gas prices rise!!
Lmao x 100000000

Salty 01-19-2012 12:34 PM

That Merc of W's gets such good gas mileage that he's still got some of the first tank left.

WAIT...gas was higher then than it is now so he's losin' his azz everytime he cranks it.
