Also anyone who is caught fishing behind the weir signs ...the fines have increased from what I'm hearing

I was $ 225 per person..... and it has gone up?????

I called the new phone # a couple of days ago to check on the wier gate at Grand Bayou. The recording said it was open, but is the gate still open now?

moturley 03-18-2012 08:13 PM

W no sure on tickets but I know them State Troopers that setup the check point wrote a few while I was talking to LDWF.

"W" 03-19-2012 02:03 PM

237 boats checked Saturday

Grand total of 9 fish caught

SULPHITE 03-19-2012 02:05 PM

if this is true the pool is dead and will not be up to levels of previous years for awhile. Am I correct in assuming this?

Don't think they will restock it but I could be wrong, makes perfect since with the drought and no spawn =no fish

Harris O'blanc fished 3 days in a row and scratched...and he is the king of the Pool

jchief 03-19-2012 02:11 PM

Does this include the D pool?

SULPHITE 03-19-2012 02:13 PM

Very sad!!!! Been fishing it since I was a kid....just moved 10 minutes from it and now no reason to fish it.

Ray 03-19-2012 02:35 PM

They year Hurricane Andrew hit, the pool dried up pretty bad.

SaltERedneck 03-19-2012 02:39 PM

They stocked it up after that and many times after....now its just about the ducks and I really don't think they will stock it back

Ray 03-19-2012 02:42 PM

When there was a woman running it, it was all about the Bass.
Not sure who is running it now.

It's always been about the ducks. It's the reason for lacassine. It ain't and never was about the fish. Just ask Ron Castile how bad that has always frustrated him.

It was about the fish at some point or they would of never stocked it with Florida hybrids

GDSD 03-19-2012 04:52 PM

You all need to get together and go see Willie Mae Gary and have her petition the refuge, so they can restock it. Her and shorty got the pull to get things done. If you don't think so, just ask them.

From what I understand it wasn't the refuge that stocked it. It was a group of fishermen that stocked it. Of course I'm not positive.

Think that's False...I don't see where this could happen unless it was a lease which the Pool is not leased so it would have to be connected to the refuge

Now to say someone did not make a huge donation toward this cause could be very possible..

But WL&F made the stock becuase I remember seeing a truck unloading baby bass one year .....We use to farm on the Plant back in 95-99...

They also have some ponds on the plant that the Stock Holders only fish...I have fished in those ponds and thats where its at...I never caught a big one like they say is in there but I did catch a lot of 5-6lbers

This was posted 4 days ago on another site by a very reliable source about the pool.

U may have been misinformed. Last shock was in Febuary! Wasn't close to those numbers.
Talked to about 40 or so boats so far. One boat had two fish and missed three. That's the only boat that has had a fish!

the Biologist told us there was about 16 to 20 bass shocked up biggest being around 7lbs

Ray 03-19-2012 06:45 PM

I gator hunted in the pool for 6 years. I started in '92. There was a lady running the refuge back then. She was all about fishing, she hated the gator hunters. Even though there were so many gators, they were eating each other.
In the 6 years there, we saw 2 Nutria. Had several 6' gators that weighed 45 pounds. They were starving cause there were so many.
She may have been the one who brought in the fish, cause that's all she talked about, all she wanted to deal with.

Feesherman 03-19-2012 07:32 PM

Talk to Ron Castille!

I work with a few guys that hauled sacks of baby bass into the marsh and released. them that have no relation to the refuge. Now I'm not sure what year this release was.

"W" 03-19-2012 07:38 PM

Ron use to post on here for the dog fights....maybe fool can have him come give his 2cents

I know lol. Was just informing Warren. Shoulda used the same screen name man!

papap 03-19-2012 08:38 PM

The refuge supplied the bass to be stocked back then. But the would ask for guys to stock them because. When the truck got there they only had a short time to get them stocked. They would give each boat some small bas and tell you where to go release them.

Not in Lacassine. THems the skinny gators of the South.
Ethopian chickens have more meat on their bones than a gator from Lacassine.

BossHog 03-21-2012 08:35 PM

Not really...the gators we catch right next to laccasine are usually bigger than any of the other lands we trap

Ray 03-21-2012 08:40 PM

I hunted inside the pool for 6 years. We would catch a big un now and then but most were malnurished. Lacassine outside the pool had huge gators. Inside were lizards.

If they re-stocked the pool Catch and release would need to be practiced for a while and that doesnt seem like an option to most people that fish there
Its seems like not keep the fish is absurd to alot of the people

It seems like to most that youre supposed to keep fish

No point in fishing if you can't keep em. Might as well play golf!

Exactly thats what I'm talking about
You need to tell all those guys making a livin fishing tournaments and the people that fish as a sport or competition that the need to quit fishing it pointless

Talked to a friend that went yesterday and said they didn't catch a thing.

duck enticer 03-26-2012 08:18 AM

I hate to see Lacassine like that.

Hopefully it will regenerate itself naturally. With just a few spawning bass the chance for survival of the young will increase due to the abundance of food. Hopefully the water levels continue to rise giving the bass more territory as well. It will get right again, just needs time.

jchief 03-26-2012 08:45 AM

Anybody here thought about making a push to stock the reserve again?

I know Dennis Tietje is pushing for getting the Mermentau river and surrounding waterways restocked. Seems like his voice is falling on deaf ears though. I believe he received a response from Dan Morrish, but that was it. Seems the states focus is on other issues besides our wildlife.

jchief 03-26-2012 09:02 AM

Laccasine is a federal reserve, correct?

Could we do something like start a drive to purchase some brood stock and put in there?

I beleive that is how it was done the first time.

True on the fed. part. Of course there would probably be alot of red tape with a drive.

"W" 03-26-2012 03:12 PM

If they stock the pool....they would have to make a few different stock dates...or twice aa year..for two years.... That's 16,000 acres of water and I know they will not stock each section at one time....
