I few out my truck doing 70mph with no seat belt and lived, while my side of the truck was crush to the seat I was in... so if I would of been in my seat belt and would of lived for some unknown reason, I'm sure I would never of walked talked or had any kind of life!!

So I believe a seat belt should be 100% your call when you are old enough (18) to msk decision over your own life

So you can not say a seat belt would of save you are not... because in my case the roof was in my seat

I'm with salty, I can care less who wears their seatbelts. But, texting is putting others at risk such as my 3 young kids. I see people dn near go over the causeway daily while fooling with their phone

They have studies showing texting is at least as bad as drunk driving.

Those studies have shown that a person texting while driving has the attention span and reaction ability of a person that is at least at the legal alcohol level. Blow it off if ya want, but, it's a major problem that is totally out of control. Sadly, when enough innocent people die, maybe they'll do something about it.

Sounds to me like you're using the gun control argument.

Can I have more pepper and less salt please? The excess salt sucks the flavor out of the meal and leaves me sick to my stomach. My heart and prayers go out to the victims family and friends in this horrible accident. Rest In Peace.

Salty, I am with you 100% on the fact that texting and driving is dangerous. My problem lies with people telling me what I can and can't do, as the issue arises as where to draw the line.

I used to commute to downtown (Houston) via METRO and was always amazed by what I would see people doing in their cars - full spread newspapers over the steering wheel, reading books, shaving, putting on make-up, eating, etc... You can't tell me that performing any one of these activities is any less dangerous than texting. So, if you are going to ban one thing, you have to ban it all.

I can see both sides of your argument; Gooh being against more laws which I am too. and Salty being against Texting while driving.... which I am too.

To me putting on makeup, texting, reading a book, checking e-mails, changing out a CD, looking at your phone, rubbing one out, clicking the bean, all of this falls under "Careless Operation" we don't need more laws. Just pull them over for careless operation and give them a ticket.
