Still waiting on a few donations to come through and, hoping for more before Dec. 14th. I still need to make it to BR to get with a donor. Been tied up with work lately though. |
This Just in!! FYI!
Anyone who has made or does make a donation to the S.C. Christmas fund by the deadline ( Dec 14th )will have their name put in a hat for drawing for guided trip for 2 in the Lake p / hope dale area. (Guides choice depending on conditions.) Called Capt Henry Poirier of Trophy Trout charters and he has graciously donated a trip for 2. Only stipulation is ,the trip must be taken on a weekday. (Mon - Thur). So for all who have not donated yet , Time is getting short. Capt Henry is one of the few guides that still trolls the bridges of lake Pontchartrain for trophy trout . To see some of his catch's check him out here . www.facebook.com/TrophyTroutCharters . If you are interested in a guided trip in the lake Pontchartrain or Hopedale area please contact him. Thanks for everyone's support. |
That's great, Eman! I've looked at his page and, yeah, he's got some very nice fish on there!

As of right now, we have $2020 raised, plus $100 in gas cards and, a $50 gift card to Logan's Roadhouse. Very impressive!
We will be accepting donations through Saturday, 12/14/13. |
We have two families. One family is a mother struggling to raise two kids on her own after her husband decided that he didn't want to be a husband or father any longer and, walked away like nothing ever happened.
The second family is a family of 6(Mom, Dad and, 4 kids). They recently lost everything they own in a house fire and, could sure use the help right now. Thanks for the help, ladies and, gentlemen! |
Bump, I was a little late getting mine in this year but it is done.
I want to thank those of you that have helped this year. |

The West side family that we are sponsoring is in need of a bunk bed - anyone have one they're looking to get rid of?
|
Bridgette, me and/or Marlene can help you with shopping etc. Just let me know.
Also, Marlene has gotten into couponing, so she said get with her and she will be glad to help. |
We found a bed for the family on the west side. It is in Crowley. Is anyone coming to Sulphur in the next couple of days that could pick it up?

Corey ,the wife and i went and delivered Christmas to the east side family this afternoon.
Mom an 2 daughters . Think mom was going to make the girls wait till tomorrow to open their gifts. That's her decision. They were very appreciative of all we did for them. Mom said to tell you all to have a blessed and Merry Christmas. |
Often times, I'm asked "What's it like when you do these deliveries?" To put it in a nutshell, it's often very awkward. When strangers show up at a home, especially one that doesn't have much to look forward to, there's not a lot of joy around the house prior to our arrival. Often times, even after we get there, there's still an uncomfortable silence or, blank stare. I think it's a lot to process for our recipients. It's a lot to process for me delivering and, whoever else is with me! In the last two years, there was next to no emotion shown while we were on site. Instead, it's been a simple "Thank you." or, "Why?" That lack of emotion makes you wonder if you've done the right thing or, if you helped the right people. I've spent the last hour in church trying to process this and, this is what I've come up with.
We often know very little about who we are helping. We just know that, through one source or, another, that they need help. In the last four years of doing this with Salty Cajun, and, even in years before with another organization, here are some of the things I've seen. Once, I showed up at a house where Dad was boiling hot dogs on the stove for Christmas dinner. I thought we'd have to call EMT's in to keep him from freaking completely out, due to our presence. Another time, we showed up to help a family where Dad stunk of straight vodka. Some time later, I learned that much of what the organization did for his family was sold to support his pill habit. Another year, a family was helped just so that the crackheaded kids could steal much of what was purchased! I begged for an answer today and, the only one I feel I received was that, it's our job to do good for others. What they do with it, in return, is up to them. In closing, I hope the family we helped today genuinely needed it. I pray they use what was done for them wisely. I got a call shortly after that said the woman was in hysterics/crying with joy for what we at Saltycajun.com had done for her and, her kids. I hope we've helped though, sometimes, it is hard to tell with the initial reaction. Thanks for all who have donated their time, money and, efforts to this! Without you, this would not be possible! May you be blessed tenfold for your generosity! |
Thanks for the update guys. Merry Christmas!!
|
Sometimes people just need hope and a chance. I believe we are bringing that to these families.

The west side delivery went well and they were very grateful. I wanted to share some pictures of what your donations bought and also give thanks to Jude (JChief) & his wife, Marlene for arranging the bed and for the help shopping, thanks to Meaux Fishing for picking up the bed on his side of town and getting it to Jude and thanks to Kaleena, wife of Ronny Dugas (DuckHunter2007 is his SC name, I believe) for her help with shopping, wrapping & delivering. Another thank you to everyone who donated, big and small, to get us over $3,000 and to Corey (Southern151) and to anyone & everyone that I may have missed that helped make this a successful 4th year Salty Cajun Christmas. -- Also wanted to share a proud parent moment.. my 4 year old was asking questions while we were wrapping the kids toys, I kept my response simple with we were wrapping for some kids who didn't have a lot of toys. He asked how many little boys and girls there were.. He went to his room and comes back with a batman toy, light up car, a whale toy and a stuffed unicorn and then he wrapped them all by himself. He said he likes to give his toys away to other kids who don't have many toys. :o)

Shawn said to ask the MODs to fix my pictures, please. Sorry they're so big!
