PUREBAY2200 08-11-2013 07:08 PM

I can't believe that a boat company would design a boat hatch with the scheme of "ease of access loading rods and gear from outside boat"

Just can't believe that.

I'm not the boat engineer so I have no clue, don't care to figure it out.
Just stating that ur answer is absurd; and if someone told u that they got a great laugh when u walked away believing them.

PUREBAY2200 08-11-2013 07:29 PM

Maybe it's easier for YOU to load stuff in; but it sure as hell wasn't built & designed with that specific purpose in mind.

No boat has even been designed with ease of loading from the ground in mind
Lmao

I think your answer is more absurd than mine being that 1 you have no clue. lol 2 you dont have a boat that has hatches that open towards the inside. 3 im not offended at all. Thats your opinion. This is what we do on this site. High 5 its all good Lmao.

i think it has something to do with common sence.
im glad I dont have to climb in and out my boat just to store rods in the rod locker. That is all :D

U keep ur rods in the boat 24/7
U realize that the heat and humidity will Hurt the rods and reels not to mention the fishing line?

I made the mistake and left a g loomis rod in my boat for a week..... Rod went from green to white/greenish
Plus ur askin to get stuff stolen.

Why don't you ask Bill Kenner that question?? I did and his response was what Alpha said. This was just a couple of years after BJ came out and he could of been messing with me. Don't know.

bayouchub 08-11-2013 07:35 PM

The frontiers are built using WOOD!!

PUREBAY2200 08-11-2013 07:37 PM

Alpha make us a video
Place 4 rods in the storage standing on the ground and then reverse steps

Then take 4 rods and place em n the boat and put em in the storage then reverse steps.

Ok ok. You have a point. Im 6'2 and it is easier for me, anyone that is 6' and above to load rods from the side while standing on the ground. Ill call the manufacturer and see what they say... And get back with ya.

I have noticed that the rod locker lids do open into the boat, we all know Bill Kenner is the Grandpa of bay boats but I must say that is simply a bad design. With that being said no boat is design perfect.

If this was the intended purpose then wouldnt all of the side lids open toward the inside of the boat? Because if i recall right the rear hatches open toward the outside?

alphaman 08-11-2013 07:58 PM

My rear hatches open toward the inside too.. guess they were trying something different:beer::D

I use mine every time I go out, and it's nice to lock then in there over night or on the way home if I have stops to make.

If mine opened to the inside, I would be able to reach well enough to take advantage of it from outside the boat anyway - the bow is high when trailered. I'm in and out the boat anyway when I'm getting ready to go because I don't leave anything in it that I'm not willing to give away!

Could it be they were able to make the lids and openings a little larger by mounting the hinges in that position?

I was only sharing this reason because it is an actual application used by other boat manufacturers in the skiff market. Loading the boat from the outside is also applied in the skiff market. These are reasons that could easily be applied by a boat manufacturer to add something "new" to a boat if they run out of options for new models.

If you think about it both these reasons make sense...there are plenty of people that buy boats that don't really know what they are doing, they see a nice boat that their buddy has and go buy it, get out on the water and get to potlicking. These are the same people that will leave a tackle bag on the deck then open the hatch to grab some sunscreen or snacks for the kiddos and watch the gear fall overboard.

Yall can share your opinions, to each his own I don't really care... If you want to know the real reason contact the boat manufacturer.

Ha ha. Who cares which way they open if they work for you.

sparkyc4 08-11-2013 09:29 PM

I'm a boat engineer and it all comes down to aerodynamics. When you spin your boat 180 doing a left turn too fast, these hatches should open to slow you down!

Don't you guys watch NASCAR?? Jeez!

Clampy 08-11-2013 09:37 PM

Most skiffs manufactures that are concerned with loading the boat from the outside make their hatches open from back to front.

speck-chaser 08-11-2013 10:03 PM

My pathfinders front rod locker hatches open the same way. Their newer modeled boats open from back to front like the hood of a car with the lil gas pistons. I never gave it much thought, but I would think if you were digging in your hatch from inside the boat, your arms would be over the hatch while "digging" preventing the lid to fall down. If were the other way, then a good wave or wind could blow the lid down on your fingers or on a rod while taking it out. Just a thought.

I plan on getting one next year.

No need for pics when it is confirmed by the builder. Just go drill a tiny hole in the floor of the anchor locker and see what comes out on the bit. Im not knocking the boats. I think they are nice but i simply dont want a boat with wood in it. Thats just my personal decision.
