in my opion the cummin engine's are proven. i have had 2 power strokes 6.0 (junk) injectors stayed fried and my work truck which is a 7.3 its a tank best motor ever made. but the new ones are just too new with me yet to trust.

now gas i have always been a dodge man my hemi will pull what ever i hook to it and runs like a scalded ape. i also have put 75000 miles in less than 2 years and i get 20 mpg in a 4x4. gm don't even compare. if i got something else it would be a ford gas burner don't have a gripe bought them except for the price.

Guys I have an 07 Dodge with 280000 miles on it. I am in the hotshot business and I am not easy on my truck often pulling more than it was designed to pull and it has held up extremely well. Hell my 40 ft mf weighs in at 8,800 pounds empty.

If you do not own or have owned a diesel truck then............

Moss I own a D-Max/auto/4X4. For me I like my truck. Are there things about my truck I would like to change, you bet. Hey, there is no perfect in every aspect of truck made.
It boils down to your preference in brand. Every brand will have issues of some magnitude during ownership. You will talk and hear from the different brand owners about their truck issues. All things regarding ownership of diesel trucks are different. Every owner drives and maintains their trucks differently, therefore, the brand of truck issues will vary. In the end it is your money purchase the brand of diesel truck you would like.

I already drive an '08 F250 4x4 crewcab 6.4L diesel king ranch. Just tryin to convince my lil buddy(closet FORD fan) to get out of his dodge diesel and step UP to the FORD. But, with the 6.4L he will have to step DOWN on the fuel mileage!! Worst mileage diesel out there, but IMO the best looking and riding out there. Can't worry bout mileage when its only $4.00/gal right?? Just can't drive it much. I only avg about 11-12 mi/gal in town(lot of short distance stop and go). The 2011 should get you way more than that.
I do alot of window tinting on the side and I will say this---- Im getting alot more new Dodge trucks in the shop than ever before. Price must be right or something. They have finally changed the looks of the Dodge for the better. My lil closet buddy wants to trade rides for a week (of course he does, he drives a dodge). Just can't see myself in that dodge(or can't be seen in it). Anyway, I think I've got him thinking FORD for his next truck.

My 06 dodge oil burner would get 20hwy and bout 17town and that was fig off several tanks with pen and paper not the puter, i put 35" tires and still got close to 17hwy. i have an uncl with an 2003 king ranch oil burner and he has spent more on the motor tthen he paid for the truck

I don't think you will hear alot of good things about the 6.0L Fords. Have heard lots of head gasket and other stories on those engines. Haven't had any of those issues with my 6.4L yet (other than fuel mileage) and I think the 2011 engines have come a long way with the mileage issue.

I have the same exact truck that you have, I added a chip and had the exhaust filter taken out (still passes inspection in Texas and LA) and my MPG went from 11 in the city to 15 and my highway MPG is up over 17 and drive 78-82 mph and all times. Also my horsepower increased by close to 200. Chips in these trucks are amazing. I was out of the warranty period so I went for it. The accleration difference will amaze you. Google Spartan chips for more information.

Change the headbolts in a 6.0 and your good to go.....

Or save yourself the trouble and get the Cummins......I've got 120k on my gas Dodge with no probe. Gas sucks tho!!

Dad has the Cummins and get WAY better milage than I do and can pull anything......he's never had ANY issues with his truck

Next purchase will be a Cummins

Will do. I'm at 3.5 yrs old with 32,000 miles now. May be time to jump on board with the add-ons.

Im at the same age with 80,000 on my DMax! Haven't had a prob with it yet. My last 5 vehicles were Chevys. Next time I buy a new one though, I won't go straight to Service Chevrolet. I am gonna check out the F250s and Cummins as well.

whunter29, what part of your post do they just not understand? I'll admitt the the inside/cab amenities are kinda generic in my '06 Dodge, but that's not where 'the rubber meets the road'...Did I mention I get 25MPG? I know the fuel milage was cut back some on the newer engines.

weedeater 05-11-2011 12:03 PM

comes down to if you want a truck that will work hard or look pretty and ride nice. My 06 Ram oil burner was pretty nice but it was a work horse, Chevy rides good but still dont trust them and Ford has lots of room and the KR is finnest lookin out there. If i had to buy a new big truck and they would let me order what i wanted it would be a Ford King Ranch with a Cummins engin and Alison trans and it would be a done deal best rig on the road

adamsfence 05-12-2011 07:53 AM

i had heard some rumors that you had to add something extra when you refuel on the new ones (ford). like a cleaner or something is there any truth to this. if so is it expensive

LaAngler 05-12-2011 07:55 AM

yea, the 2011 6.7L uses some sort of exhaust cleaner called urea. There is an extra small tank cap next to the diesel fuel cap.Cost about $12 for 2.5 gal. i think. Doesn't use that much I dont think.

Thx...Just wish it got better fuel mileage. 8.5-10 mpg pulling RV doesn't get you real far on a 26 gallon tank. May look into some exhaust and tuner add-ons.
