Yep , get closed cell under the camp it's nit cheap but the closed cell dries rock hard n will not absorb moisture like open cell. Closed cell is what they put on those insulates boxes on shrimp boats . Plus it adds tons of strength to the structure . What kind of floors are inside the camp??

flounder_smacker 09-02-2011 12:29 PM

my next home will be buried half way and the rest will be covered in earth. no better insulation than dirt.

Hardwood laminate throughout.

Is it possible to add this now once the house is built? Sorry, I'm an accountant and useless when it comes to construction.

I moved into my house last year labor day weekend.
3200s/f two story house 10 foot celings except in the living room is 22 feet
Did the foam insulation thing with goodman 16 seer 5 ton down stairs and 4 ton up stairs.
my bill runs right around 200 a month
I dont think that is bad at all

pmckee318 09-02-2011 01:29 PM

Brick is a very poor insulator, yes rolled insulation is still standard but what was the R value they used?

Question for the contractors: On a newer brick home, is it standard to put the fiberglass roll insulation in the exterior walls? someone told me that that is not standard practice:confused:

Reason for my asking is that when I open up my cabinets they seem to be warm perhaps from the heat of the bricks in the sun all day???

Casey surely your contractor who was mine put batt insulation underneath your lake house did it on mine, however I did put a 16 seer unit in mine. What are you turning your thermastat up to when you leave?

The houses I build I only use roll/ batts for sound proof on interior walls , only tract home builders in my area use batts for insulation

pmckee318 09-02-2011 02:31 PM

That's good quality stuff, but this is a camp house/ weekends only. Every other one if that. Had to cut corners somewhere to come in on budget, after ther wife puts her touches on it.

Don't think I was trying to knock your home if I came off that way I appoligize . No but seriously I'm building a 3500 living area home right now and the blown fiber was not much more

pmckee318 09-02-2011 02:50 PM

I understand, no problem, just saying surely this contractor did at least that much for Casey.
