what type machine did you get. Been looking at getting one for some jo-boat modifications

Can you put a spool gun on that machine? I have the auto arc 130 and I can't fit one one mine. I don't think it's ideal for aluminum anyway. I just use it for stuff like what you did and I run the flux cored wire. Haven't tried it with a shield gas yet

I know itll take gas but i just use flux core as well. My welding knowledge is very limited but all i use it for is small stuff. Im not real picky about how it looks.

Same here. I was hoping to learn to weld on aluminum but I've talked with a couple of welders and they said my machine just wasn't a good rig to run on aluminum. But like you said, for fixing stuff around the house and making things like your rack, you can't beat those machines

Flux core wire is just fine. It actually welds better and easier than regular wire with gas. When you start weldin with gas everything has to be very very clean and no drafts. But flux core you can just get it.

very true, thats one thing that I've noticed is how easy the flux core is with dirty metals. I am really impressed with the machine. I had borrowed my dads for a few months before my wife got me mine for christmas. He's had his for 4 years now and no problems. It'll be real nice to have for working on my tractor's implements.

I hear you. I havent messed with the small machines much. But sounds like they're perfect for around the house, thin metal, implements and such. I'm curious as to how they would handle aluminum beings it takes so much heat. I've used the spool guns with gas on bigger machines for aluminum and it's cake. But I still rather heliarc aluminum. Just a better weld IMO. All my original welds broke on my boat which were mig. I rewelded all welds with heliarc and haven't had a problem.

We use 80/20 argon/co2 mix when we weld with fluxed core wire and just about everything we weld is dirty. Does it weld better clean yes. I always use the 80/20 mix when welding with fluxed core.

I do wish mine had power steering, i think you can get the new foremans/rubicons fuel injected and with power steering
