on my southfork, at the top of the tunnel, the aluminum continues outward past the transom another 1' or so, I bent that up some using a hammer to through water a little higher due to some ever so slight cavitating at times. It saved me from adding cup to the prop.

Check the place in Beaumont that advertises on SE Texas.com. I've heard some of the guys at work talk about them being pretty cheap.

If you're looking for stability and room get the 48" bottom but if you're not get the 42" or 46". With a stock mercury 40 with a console plywood floor a big front deck and three big batteries it'll do 30-31mph. Not a speed demon but a comfortable ride. I had it in Biglake a Friday in the wind and never was concerned. It handled the waves very good. My only complaint is the tunnel on the 48" bottom is wider than the tunnel on the 42" bottom and to me it doesn't run as shallow. That being said I know the boat is heavy with all the batteries in it. I'm fixing to reduce some weight in it and hopefully it'll improve some.

Tunnel Hulls
Im also shooping for similar rig.
Southfork .80 gauge 18/42 Tunnel $2,500. The 48" Southfork tunnels are .100 gauge, I didn't price that model. The Southfork model i quoted had a "performance tunnel" not the deep tunnel, but they prob make deep tunnel. I priced Alweld 18/44 and 20/44 La Model with deep tunnel this am, I believe price was around $2,700 and a little under $3,000. I'm leaning heavy on the 20/44 Alweld with deep tunnel. I'm not too concerned with speed, and I would prefer not to run jack plate if possible. What I would really like is a true flat bottom 19/50 Custom Tunnel but that's a little more $$$ than I'm wanting to spend. Anybody have any 1st hand feedback on the performance tunnel vs deep tunnel? |
Boaaaaaaats
One more thing, IMO if your pricing a Tunnel Hull and your getting up around $4,000 you might wanna think about a custom built boat or a good used custom built boat.

I have the 18/44 alweld performance tunnel. Very stable and solid built boat. Have t got real shallow with it yet. But runs good
