As a smoker I am polite about it, move or go outside. But at a hot table or a bar your on your own!!!!

There's way more crapp in the air in any "big city" to worry about smoking !!!!

And that includes politicians!!!

I am typing this with my formerly nicotine stained fingers......As a musician who used to smoke I applaud the non smoking bars. We spend a lot of money on equipment that ends up smelling like A@@. You, your truck, your house all smell like a bar. And as a former smoker the smell is WAY worse now. I just made 7 years cold turkey after 20+ of stinking! I remember when I sang at Pepper's every Friday and they went smoke free and I was pissed. Had to go outside on my breaks. But I smell better now!

You right! That smoke will do more than make your gear stink too....it'll frack it up pretty good!

Business owner can decide to make it smoke free if they want to, or a smoking establishment. I am afraid that you are in the minority though. This is why most bars, unless mandated, allow smoking.

because smokers affect non smokers with second hand smoke ....

duckman1911 01-23-2015 11:49 PM

I smoke but at the same time I also don't like being in a room full of smoke. I do not smoke in my house and if I m around people that don't smoke I'll step off if I need a cig. That being said their is no way in hell big brother should be able to tell a person what they can and can't do with their own property. No I don't buy into the public health BS argument. If you think second hand smoke at a bar is bad for you and you still go then that makes you the one endangering your health not the guy having a beer and a smoke. It's not a public health issue unless it is a place the public has a reasonable obligation to use. DMV, Courthouse, Hospital etc. Places you are required to go to are public health issues. Choosing to go to a bar to have a beer then complaining about the smoke is not a public health issue. You endangered your own health by willfully choosing to go there.
Non smokers affect themselves by willing putting themselves around second hand smoke.

If the owners of any establishment have rules from the government on how to operate it is usually bad and not very much a free market system at that point.

Funny thing is, this was Passed by the New Orleans city council, not the distant beaurocrats in DC. The public spoke on this.

Moral is, get over it!! You can just as easily stay home and smoke, or walk outside, just as easy as you can tell nonsmokers to not go.

Fact is, if any smokers decide not to go out to these establishments, the nonsmoking public will more than likely make up for the loss. Just consider the fact that there are far more people that don't smoke than do. I doubt any business is going to suffer for long, if at all.

Passed by the city council . BUT, they exempted Bourbon street???? Think they were afraid of the $$$ loss?

To me the point isn't whether smokers will benefit or whether non smokers will benefit. The point is government (of any size) telling a business owner what he/she can and can't allow on their own property.
Simple fix!!!! Make it a private club. Lifetime membership is $1.00. If it's a private club it will be exempt. Nothing non smokers or smokers can do about it.
Going to a bar when you know there will be smoke then whining about it later is like shooting a handgun without ear plugs then whining because your ears are ringing. You knew what would happen yet you made the decision to do it anyway.

I agree. Business owners should have the say. I'm not a smoker but I shouldn't be able to tell a business owner he can smoke in his own building.

Banned in private clubs also.
The ordinance, which goes into effect in 90 days, applies to bars, casinos, parks, private clubs, any business establishment, recreational areas, sports arenas, theaters, and a host of other places.
