if you are serious about comp calling check out a couple vids by trevor shannahan. He is well known in both duck and goose divisions. http://youtu.be/sOu8BxAOiuc

bgizzle 01-10-2013 07:58 PM

Saw all his stuff. Really good. Shelby free is good too.

Kenner18 01-10-2013 07:58 PM

Personally I find a kazoo works really well on ducks or even a harmonica sometimes .

juuuuussssssttttttt joking!

I personally use a different calling style than most people in this state. You always hear how less is more when it comes to calling and from my experience the only cases in which this is true is if the person blowing the call is sub par or concealment issues. To me the louder the nastier the better. If ya'll are as serious about meat hunting as proclaimed in previous comments i recommend checking out a keyhole style call. Here is a video of someone i believe to be the best duck killer alive blowing a keyhole. Everything you hear in the video is used out in the woods. http://youtu.be/TidB_G7d8TU

Ok, it's official, I have to distance myself from this thread!!!

Goooh 01-10-2013 08:45 PM

No offense to anyone, and to each his own... But this is bull-tish. I ain't getting in an argument about how silly these calling styles are, when you're blowing like that you know it crosses your mind though.

New calling styles are coming and going just as fast as cell phones and truck models. I have no issues killing with the traditional style where you actually sound like a duck, and when all this "bouncing hen" and "2 stroke with bad fuel" fad passes I'll still be waxin ducks with my simple calling.

Here's a video of a duck being called in by Top Dawg and shot. I'm not tooting my own horn, because I'm neither calling, nor shooting. But here's what works for us. Excuse the language.

PotLikinisAhabbit 01-10-2013 10:36 PM

Duck in the video looked really committed... lol why even call if you just gonna pass shoot. Getting there feet wet is what gets the blood pumping. Learn patience, let them work, and shoot them close. As for Top Dog in regards to your comment of am i kidding i really wish you would have been more specific.

FEMA trailer and 55' camper under lean2. You'll hear the bouncing hen!!! Lol just look for the swarm of ducks. Any roads closed down through sweet lake? Names brad heard they got a ton of birds in the area since yesterday, I won't post but if you want a report pm me. Shelby free is 21 now.

Duck Butter 01-11-2013 10:17 AM

a little bump for the thread but also an interesting topic that doesn't have anything to do with this thread

You ever notice how that 99% of the time when somone posts pics of them killing limits, they always are holding mulitples of 6 ducks? In other words, they find every SINGLE duck they shot that day? No cripples lost? Simply amazing:rotfl:

Top Dawg 01-11-2013 10:26 AM

That's why I shoot lead shot and Spunt Drag has a good dog. We rarely have cripples with the lead and when we do the dog finds it!

Goooh 01-11-2013 11:02 AM

Alright, I just threw some bad gas in my weedeater. That sucker is bouncin and chuckling, bringing it to the blind in the morning. Hope the smoke don't flare 'em.

It's not an electronic caller so it has to be legal. Wish me luck!

Any cripples are dispatched with my AR-15. And those politicians said they serve no hunting purpose.

Hey thread bumbers! Y'all do any good this weekend? Definately a change in our birds action. For the better. Hey and guess what I got go pro footage of the bouncing hen pulling em in on a string when nothing else would turn them plus we were hidden of course I think maybe. Good luck to all in the last leg of our duck season. Go pro footage to come. Have to cut and edit to make it look real of course. ;)

We got some go pro footage of our speck hunt Saturday. It's on my buddies camera. I haven't seen it yet but should be some good footage with a lot of geese.

bgizzle 01-14-2013 03:26 PM

I got some editing software better than the go pro one. If y'all need y'all can borrow to rip it to ur CPU then give it back. Don't need cd after rip

Goooh 01-14-2013 03:34 PM

What software is it?

GoPro is awesome. I definetly want one to film this turkey season and also some big catfish on a Trot line action. Post up some hunt footage when u upload it. I love that stuff.

Top Dawg 01-14-2013 08:49 PM

I wish things looked a little closer. I saw a little bit of footage and some of the geese we shot were 2o yards in the dekes but looked far on video. Still pretty cool to get kill footagE

It has numerous film mode settings, if it is set to film 1080 wide then it will make things look farther. This setting is factory default I believe, probably should have filmed in Medium or Narrow...

I have a hunt scheduled for Friday morning, I will upload some rough footage then an edited movie to some music... Hopefully we get some birds, not liking the blue bird skies they are forecasting!
