This is what people down here call birdseye. Its an invasive exotic weed that farmers hate but doves really like!

False croton (Goatweed is a croton) is another name

LSU will tell you how to kill it, but not grow it! Better pics in here

Thanks for the pics, yep, I've seen those little boogers before. Didn't realize how good/bad they were.

Texasweed

You can't buy "Birdeye" seed. Birdeye is actually Texasweed or Mexicanweed. It grows naturally here in Southwest Louisiana when conditions are right. Birdeye is what doves would rather eat while they are in this area but they will eat other small grain if the conditions are right. I shot a good number of birds last year in a milo field but it was bush hogged down to the ground and easy for them to access.

I have access to about 1000 acres in Iota. Would anyone be interested in forming a Dove Club there and share in the work/cost to plant it up? Let me know and I'll see if my friend wants to go this route. It just sits there idle. There are some tree lines and a big pond in the back that borders the bayou.

I would be interested. Anyone else???

Pretty sure thats a Sisyrinchium (blue-eyed grass, but not techinally a grass, in the iris family), pretty flower, probably not much wildlife value, but its native! Several different species of it around SW La.
