Wrong, polygraph will pacifically ask wherefish was caught. Rules state public body of water so hypothetical angler would be arrested for fraud, a felony in Louisiana .

Is the salt ditch going black lake considered "private"?

Years ago there was a push from land owners to make the Saltditch private but (and I may be off on this) the coast guard blocked it.

I agree with this, but also see the argument from the 'other side' as well. SOME (not all) of this is due to frivolous lawsuits of people getting hurt on someones' property and they are just having to take measures to extreme. Others are still clearly in the wrong and want to have their own private fishing hole. We are in a world where everyone wants to sue and get something for nothing, and it is what it is.

Fool, that was by no means an attack, but you have to see it from both sides. You were 9 isn't going to hold up when it comes to a trespassing ticket, much like the guy who didn't know he was in a private canal. Mistakes happen

No harm takin bro. I didn't know it was private, I dont go back. I'm just stating the my canal is non navigable along with the rest of the culverts on the calcasieu.

I don't own the culverts. The parish owns them. Both myself and neighbor split land on both sides of OUR CANAL.

And your dock is where in the cove???

On the canal in the southwest corner. We have had the land on both sides of that canal leased for the last 30 years. We even had a camp there but it's been gone for awhile. The older members of the family drive the oilfield roads and 4 wheeler down to the dock. By law we could turn in every boat that goes past the mouth of the canal without permission. Also we could put a gate across the mouth of the canal. But we see that as being rather silly and as long as people make room when we showup to fish we don't worry about it.

You are right about Cameron parish. I work in Miami Corp marsh and they have charges against several people right now for going into the canals without the Miami permit and/or motor size too big.

Well it must be nice to be in the same boat in which the owner claims that he "bought" some GPS points from someone else!!! It makes fishing a whole lot easier to have that advantage. And it still didn't help y'all even place. Yeah, now I am laughing! It's ok, I caught 56 fish today. I have PLENTY of my own spots to fish that I didn't have to buy from someone! So, one reef won't hurt me, trust me.

Didn't know that was ya'lls property. I thought it was Apache.

If this canal was dug for drainage by a public entity it makes it public. There is a canal that has the land owners that border it claim it private, it has even been to court and the land owners have lost. The reason being is the parish drainage board paid to have the canal dug also after it was dug, LDWF paid to put in a launch. A lot has to do with different variables.

Another body of water that was once private which not many people know is White Lake, in Vermilion parish. The lake was landlocked before the old Intracoastal was dug and the oilfield came in and drilled.

Also from schools I have been to for work, the government defines navigable waters as any water that flows to a natural body of water. The example that was given is this; "the road ditch, that you keep up, if it drains to a natural lake, river, or stream is indeed navigable if it can float a toothpick at least one time in a 365 day period".

That's who we lease from. Bad thing is they have no more wells that far down so they do no road upkeep. Another hurricane and the road we be gone. But that may make it better for fishing since it will open all the marsh to the east to a greater influx of tide. When they installed the water control for Mud Lake it made a big difference in the amount of fish and shrimp coming out of that canal.

State Land/water map

Follow this link and you can pretty much see what is private and what is not. On the left click on state lands, then state claimed water bodies. After that click on legend and it will give you the guide to see what is private and public.

We were told it was not navigable due to the depth and due to who dug it.. I also searched the law awhile back. I'm posting on phone.

However, not to argue, but the drainage into a public water is not true. As the Little Burns Drains through this canal, and every part of the little burns are private, hints where I got busted when I was 9
