Yea all those japanese models look sweet but they want BIG money for them....

I did see that scorpion 1000 xt for a decent price on japantackle.com they seem comparable to the chronarch E.

What is the Jap reel for the core

SaltyShaw 04-06-2013 11:49 AM

Slightly lighter and tuned better than chronarch, and they have a 6:4:1 ratio
Buying one off japantackle today!

Waltrip that is the Aldebaron now

Those new quantums are light. But I'm not sure how they hold up to the salt.

The regular smoke is terrible for salt. I have seen reports that the inshore version rusts… Wouldn't touch Quantum with a ten foot pole for salt.

Just got back from Fishing Tackle Unlimited and have to say that the Team Lew's Pro is awesome.

I know man I been looking at that one for a while I just can't fish with a full size reel like that I'm so used to 50s

Lol damn I had forgot about scorpions before this thread, now I have an XT on the way

My oldest one had a little corrosion around the side where you open up for breaks but that's about it

lsufish 04-06-2013 07:31 PM

I have a core, and have yet to experience any corrosion issues.

However, I do follow the instructions and tighten drag all the way, run it under the sink while reeling, and then loosen drag all the way to air out.

For those that have cores, how often do you oil them, where do you apply it, and what type of oil do you prefer?

I never wash then at all....have them cleaned once a year by Ron

I will spray some reel magic on then every now and then

Who's Ron? Burgundy?
