I was told the CORE is for freshwater only!!! Again someone that owns a place that sells fishing supplies told me this. BTW, I looked at the new Chronarch 100D7 reels.....SWEET.....but a little to much $$$$ for me.

Shimano says it is approved for saltwater use. i use my 100mg and havent had any issues with it.

No issues with the CORE Mg50's and I've been throwing them for almost a year.

:trolls:

I haven't thrown the Chronies much but, compared to a Curado, the Calais CL100A with 7:1 gear ratio and 11 bearings is a total piece of crap. :smokin:

Haven't thrown the Core but I got a couple 2010's due next week. Cynoscion is the resident Core guy.

You sure it was a Core? :smokin:

I have only heard of a couple people having problems with the core corroding it seems better than the mgs in saltwater. And the only difference in the new chronarch and core is the frame, magnesium vs aluminum. Personaly I wont put any of my cores or mgs in saltwater anymore their strickly my freshwater reels. Only use chronarchs and calasises for salt now.

Per Shimano's instructions:

1. Tighten the drag all the way down
2. Place the reel where the spool is centered under GENTLY running fresh water and reel for approximately 30 seconds
3. Wipe the reel off with a soft towel and loosen the drag all the way open.
4. Let reel air-dry.

The trick is to keep the reel right side up while under the running water so that you do not flood the internal workings of the reel. I also take my reels in for professional cleanings after approximately 10-12 trips as needed...
