W doesn't need a "GPS/Fishfinder". He knows where to go to catch fish and his dinks won't show on the sonar.

I was on a boat with twin 350's, don't know if it makes a difference.... Strong motors, I just didn't care for them....

LaAngler 07-22-2009 09:08 AM

the fly by wire verado 350 supposed to be better

redspeck82 07-22-2009 09:11 AM

Yea and the verado 350 is a V-6 insted of a V-8 so it might get alittle bet MPG.

SULPHITE 07-22-2009 10:43 AM

How much does the 24ft cost?

MERCURY OUTBOARD MAN 07-22-2009 06:20 PM

The plastic lids and cleats are an option we do use fiberglass lids and pull up ss cleats if you want these boats are custom we have right at 200 guides using these boats from baffin bay to lake charles the rougher the water the better they will run the 24 high output with 225 pro xs will run 60-64 mph thats not bad for a 24 ft boat

without a doubt, a 200 or 225 will get you a lot better cruise speed not to mention top end. Plus it doesn't have to work as hard as a 150 which will improve mileage. A pad boat like that will not perform right without enough horsepower to lift the nose up.

In some of the pictures i saw some plastic lids and plastic cleats, not sure why they wouldn't just use glass lids and stainless.

One thing about the speckle paint finish inside is that it's much easier to keep looking clean

MERCURY OUTBOARD MAN 07-22-2009 06:23 PM

The z 21 with 225 proxs will run 4 mph over rpm

Maybe yours was not tested but i am sure you can find one that is pretty close to the weight and hull design of the one you are looking at(haynie). Hard to believe that boat has a weight of 1,350# and rated for a 250hp. The test results/data that yamaha did with the 4 stroke 150/xpress x22bay are pretty dang accurate compared to the way mine runs....fuel ecomony, top speed, speed @ rpms, and plane time. If anything the test data is conservative based on the load weight during the test. I usually have more weight in my boat since i fish three 90% of the time. Also, a 4 stoke can run at higher rpms than a 2 stroke di motor. I bet the optimax has the same range as the hpdi...5,500 rpms compared to a 4 stoke at 6,000 rpms. I bet that boat would fly with a 225 optimax!
I think the 150 yamaha 4 stoke is more than enough motor for that boat...get a jack plate.

MERCURY OUTBOARD MAN 07-22-2009 06:31 PM

Yes HAYNIE is the biggest mercury dealer in texas we are yamaha dealers also the z21 with 150 yamaha 4 strk starts out at $32000.00 pm me and i will tell you what you get at that price its not a stripped down mdl for sure and for the comment on grab rails around windsheild they all come with them we sell so many of these boats its hard to get finished products because everyone is in a hury we sell everyone built in all models Haynie has been the #1 boat in corpus christi area for 2 years check em out you will love them for sure

Good luck going with the Optimax..... I would get a HPDI 200HP in place of that MERC if you are looking with something besides the 4 stroke 150 Yamaha. Does Haynie have an agreement in place with MERC? I guess I am just a Yamaha guy. The only down side of going with the 101# troll motor is the extra battery. I think an 80# is more than enough. But nothing wrong with have too much power.
