Not even gonna go there

cduhon 08-30-2011 08:59 PM

have always heard the single standing pole rigs as pencil rigs. Only one pole in the water (guess someone thought it looked like a pencil) Lots of them when you head west out of the jetties. they have several clusters of them out there. several single rigs close together.

Kenner18 08-30-2011 09:06 PM

Nope Im not a guide ,nor have I ever claimed to be one .

just saw the post from cduhon...and if he was that far offshore with all them red fish (no offense to anyone) but that will get you in deep ka-ka!! Need to check demarcation lines before you bring back red fish from O/S. You can't bring redfish out past the demarcation (even if you caught them inshore) and bring them back in legally!! Jus tryn to keep ya money in your pocket peeps!!

Capt B.

First pic was from today- stayed close to shore and caught all the reds around jetties and just west of them. Other pic was from Friday when we went offshore- and no reds were kept on that trip. Thanks for the info though in case someone didn't know. They have been checking lately. Buddy of mine got $150 ticket 2 weeks ago for having 1 redfish more than 3 miles out.

Pencil rigs are not rigs. They are single well jackets. Some are just a casing with a wellhead on top, some with a heliport and some have 2, 3 or 4 legs and more than one well.

It's the ones that have #2 lead on the side. If it .07 mm don't fish them. Also only fish the ones with a pink tip. Not the white ones. Come holidays its much easier to recognize them, they wrap them accordingly to the holiday.
