Yes, diamond-backed watersnake, they eat fishy fishies primarily. They bite too, and stink when you grab them:rotfl:

Smalls 05-07-2013 02:17 PM

:rotfl: It just grabbed the fish and will be turning it to get it down its throat, I got some pics of one somewhere doing that same thing. They have a preference for catfish

Saw one similar in size swimming on Lacassine Bayou a couple years back. Biggest fricken snake I ever seen in the wild! How big do they get DB?

BIG! No seriously, the females get really big. There are some in the museum at UL Monroe that don't even look real. Probably close to 5 feet but the girth is what is impressive. There is a beast of one at Lake Martin if you go past the boat ramp and head down to the first gate, there is a pile of rocks with a pipe on the lake side and she hangs out on those rocks.
Yellow-bellied watersnakes can get pretty big too, the other watersnakes are generally not as big.

Caught a yellow-bellied ws out of my parents flowerbed a few weekends back. That sucker was probably 3 foot long. Mom was freaking out. I went Crocodile Hunter on it for a bit. "Calm down little fella, I'm not gonna hurt ya." My parents thought I was crazy. Apparently the snake didn't care for that sweet talk either, but I won that fight. Guess my friends have been calling me croc hunter too long.
