Whats your choice Home Defense

Lets hear it...what is your prefered weapon for home defense.

I would prefer to have a tactical type shotgun, but with a 2 yr old that loves "pow pows" I just don't like having it accesible for safety reasons. Trying to research a solution for that though...so right now its a sig .40 - but was looking at judges or s&w govenor for the benefit of wall penetration due to a child in another room...

DUCKGOGETTER 12-14-2011 09:53 AM

I have a bazooka for anybody who threads on me and a quick draw

Lake Chuck Duck 12-14-2011 09:54 AM

springfield 1911 .45!!!!!!! With hollow points. Sits on shelf in bedroom closet, out of reach of the child.

If you are interested in the judge my buddy has a black one for sale for $400.

I keep a 9mm in my house for protection but do agree on wall penetration, that being said I plan on aiming for the head with my home defense rounds.

Jordan 12-14-2011 09:57 AM

12 ga with 3" 00 buckshot by the dresser and .40 s&w on the headboard. Im ready !

this is what i have a 9mm

kibb 12-14-2011 10:15 AM

I had a 9mm and .40 hanging above the door in the closet. I decided to lock them in the safe cause if someone broke in and found them I would've been out over $1100. I got on lasportsman and found an old 870 for $200. So, I bought that and did some chopping. 5 rounds of 3" 00 should do the trick.

2 nines in the bedroom closet and if I get to the front room about 4 shotguns, 3 rifles and a 22 pistol

evidrine 12-14-2011 10:29 AM

I stopped keeping my 9mm by the bed due to kids also. I have a .357mag out of reach but somewhat accessible. I do worry about wall penetration also, but it is hard to keep a shotgun out of childs reach and still in my reach. I have looked into the bedside pistol safes, but them things cost a fortune.

SULPHITE 12-14-2011 10:32 AM

yep I'm pricing out some of the bio metric safes for this reason. found alot that suck but there are a few for $150 -200 that are decent

mcjaredsandwich 12-14-2011 10:32 AM

I would like a glock chambered in .40 S&W, right now its my remington 700 7mag because I am having a problem with the action on my 1100. Bottom feed button dont wanna chamber a round. :(

Preferrred......uuummm

It's all about layers..........Just the basic preferences listed....no further details

1. Home security system
2. Large dog with big teeth
3. Any type weapon I choose

wtretrievers 12-14-2011 10:51 AM

Shotgun.... Just point & pull, don't need buckshot, heavy load of #4's will knock their azz off at close range.

I agree....

I use a 12 gauge shotgun with some 3 inch #2's...and not near the wall penetration you will have with buckshot....A shot to the torso and they are down for the count....

I believe that.....I always figured I would rather run from a person holding a pistol vs a person holding a shotgun.

jdm4x43732 12-14-2011 11:06 AM

A judge, mossberg 500 that has been trimmed down, and a ar-15

Jordan 12-14-2011 11:07 AM

my dad worked a gun shot a while back of a home invasion. Guy shot another guy with #6 squirrel load and dad said he could almost see through his stomach area.

probably have to change the carpet in that spot ;)

in honesty i would rather kill the guy then put him in prison...only to return for vegeance

Jordan 12-14-2011 11:24 AM

it took hazmat/fire dept about 4 hrs to clean up according to my dad. There was pieces of intestine in the sheetrock.

Sick part of it was that when my dad went in the room to "work" on the suspect, there was a cat on the bed full as a tick licking its paws.

makes ya wonder....

kibb 12-14-2011 11:26 AM

^^ and probably win a lawsuit against your azz.

I think he was referring to sulphites comment about killing a man instead of sending him to prison.

all star rod 12-14-2011 12:03 PM

I have several shotguns plus a GLOCK 22 which is the 40cal.

BigChaf 12-14-2011 12:16 PM

9mm is for people who squat to pee, 13 round .45 with laser sights, the red dot is where the bullet goes, backup with 5 - 12ga rounds and you have no problem.

jchief 12-14-2011 12:25 PM

.45 is for people with penis problems.

joshdomingue 12-14-2011 01:03 PM

Mossberg 12 gauge pistol grip pump by my bed at all times......... You can't miss with that

Matt G 12-14-2011 01:35 PM

Don't laugh at me , but a Bersa .380 concealed carry version with 3 extra mags. Not the knockdown power, but deadly if used right. That should get me to the gun safe where the perps day will just become even more F'd up.

45. 1911 4" barrel. You can't go wrong with a weapon that has been through as many wars as the 1911.
