Grand Isle

Has anyone here been charged a fee for cancelling their trip to Grand Isle because of the oil? It just happened to us and I am upset about it. Am I wrong or what? If you can't fish and you cant go to the beach then what other reason is there for us to go there. In my opinion the consumer should not be punished because of the oil spill.

jpeff31787 05-24-2010 01:18 PM

i don't agree with them charging you for your cancellation because its not as if you weren't feeling good or the weather looks bad. YOU CAN'T FISH!!! Or enjoy the beach for that matter...

Can you fish the bay side though? I've busted some trout wade fishing right there in the bay behind Strawberry street

We have friends with camps on the island. They told us all their bookings had been cancelled. The realestate company managing the properties were the ones not wanting to refund the deposits... Not the owners. These particular camp owners wanted to refund all deposits. I personally do not think under the circumstances they should keep one penny. If your reservation was made thru a realestate company your may want to complain to the La. Realestate Commission. (just a thought)....DISCLOSURE - I am a licensed r/e broker in the state of La.

In my opinion

when a responsible party is found. They should refund deposits to rentors

The lady we were renting from gave my buddy all kinds of hell while trying to cancel but finally let us cancel. He did let her keep the $75 deposit but she was trying to keep the whole amount we were going to pay for the entire weekend.

It is pretty much all closed now. Nothing to do there now but go to Arties, which really is not a bad thing.

Yea it's not bad when there's people there. But no fishing = no tourists and no tourists = nobody at Arties

Opinions_Vary 05-24-2010 02:06 PM

Glad to know I'm not alone... Where else, except with income taxes, are you expected to pay for a service you don't receive. I think it is unethical the way they are doing business and I am not going to stay at any of the properties they manage any longer.

RaginCagin 05-24-2010 02:07 PM

Probably no freaking tarpon rodeo:pissed::(. Now where will I go to see girls using huge trolling plugs as...., well nevermind but I will be sad if they dont have it this year.

BellPepperHead 05-24-2010 02:27 PM

Like the guy in the advocate said this morning...

As long as they don't have oil in the beer, we'll be ok.

As far as accomodations go, if the spill is not the cabin or hotel owner's fault, why should they be punished? You made the choice to cancel, not them. If they cancelled the reservation because they will be closed, that's one thing. If you cancelled because you will be bored with fishing closed, that's another.

If you are talking specifically about a fishing trip (i.e. guide services), that's different. If the guide can't provide their service due to weather, fishing closures, etc., that risk is inherent in being a guide, and they should refund your money.

Just my $.02 . ;)

Not sure which show. It happens nearly every year but there was one last year that involved a tuna bait, stripper( I assume), big boat, and a $100 bill.

Dink 05-24-2010 05:01 PM

Garfish 05-25-2010 08:44 AM

Yo Eman,
The Tarpon Rodeo has always has had stuff like that goin' on. Ask your bro about the Tarpon Rodeo trip of the infamous "Buddy Ro" we had one year at the camp. And the fishin was pretty good too. LOL

No this was last year and it was 1 chick. I almost felt sorry for her. Almost:D.

Garfish 05-25-2010 09:09 AM

Just talked to my brother and he cancelled his trip there for mid-June. He had a camp rented from Century21 and he got his deposit back, BUT they still charged him a $75 "Covenience Fee".

That sounds like "INCONVENIENCE" to me. IMHO

they gave us a hard time... do they think their customers are going to still go to the island if there is no fishing and no beach... I am not renting from them again. The shame is that we go to the island every summer and for $75 they are assuring that we are never going to rent any of their properties again.

ShadMan 05-25-2010 12:24 PM

I'm still not sure why you would think that's their problem, or why they should refund your money? If you own a house on the island, does it mean that you shouldn't have to make your house payments due to the spill? Or your boat payments if you own a boat there? If the house/cabin is available for you to use (regardless of whether the fishing is good or beaches are clean, neither of which they can control), they have fulfilled their end of the contract. If you choose to cancel your trip, pay the cancellation fee you agreed to and stop whining. :p

LaAngler 05-25-2010 12:50 PM

if wonder if travel protection insurance plans have an oil spill clause?

fishinpox 05-25-2010 12:51 PM

i think 75 buck is chump change compared to what the people are going to lose due to the spill . think about it ...if you were in there shoes

i agree...cancellation fee's are everywhere...you basically entered a contract with the people and your breaking that contract....they have no control over weather or disasters.

I talked to a lady this morning who owns a store in grand isle and several rental properties. She called and cancelled several peoples reservations so she could accomodate workers who are paying more for the rooms. She is making a killing, chances are if you cancel your room it has already been rented out. They keep the deposit as sort of an inconvience charge for having to answer the phone.

simplepeddler 05-25-2010 02:39 PM

I just asked C21 to hold on the the "deposit" for when I go back!!
I WILL BE BACK on the island at some point!

the 75 bucks is reasonable.

I have heard the stories about Buddy Ro and what went on at NAYA.
Kinda makes me glad to be gettin old and slowin down a bit.

I talked to "B" today he turned me on to some stuff to spray the house.

"H" 05-25-2010 08:59 PM

I heard they are getting $200 a week on the island right now for an RV spot. Plenty of clean up people coming in.
