amite /blind /tickfaw etc

just released by ch.9 news.
As of noon today all waterways in livingston parish are closed to boat traffic.
they say this is due to the chance of flooding.

FF_T_Warren 07-06-2010 12:27 PM

hmm never heard of em doing that

RaginCagin 07-06-2010 12:29 PM

That seem weird.

longsidelandry 07-06-2010 12:35 PM

A friend's parents house just flooded in New Iberia due to all the rain over here. About an hour ago they had a couple inches over the base boards.

eman 07-06-2010 12:36 PM

say that w/ the wind and rain and tides there could be flooding.

simplepeddler 07-06-2010 12:51 PM

spent most of the day at our family camp on Blind river....water was just inches from covering the pier.....
Higher than I ever see it unless we are about to get a hurricane ......

High High for sure

southern151 07-06-2010 01:41 PM

I know they've closed St. James Boat Club several times due to water and debris.

flyphisher 07-06-2010 02:29 PM

Damned oil will be there soon.

yak'em-n-stack'em 07-06-2010 02:35 PM

Wow. That's crazy. It's been steady raining since noon here

simplepeddler 07-06-2010 02:36 PM

Yea yak,,,,,,,,,,,,we need some relief........

boats passing yesterday was pushing water over the piers.........
those that have low lying camps will get water from the wakes.......

yak'em-n-stack'em 07-06-2010 02:38 PM

That's why it's closed I bet

simplepeddler 07-06-2010 02:40 PM

duckman444 07-06-2010 04:29 PM

what kind of fish do ya'll catch back there. i ve been a couple times but never produced well. but i was bream fishing with crickets. i would like to know how to fish it cause its so close to the house i can bring my 8 yr old.

simplepeddler 07-06-2010 05:00 PM

fishing is tough but on the mend.....
bream,Bass and Sacalait.....

I don't fish it to be honest......we've been back there five decades now so we have seen come and go.

We set out crab traps in the summer and that's about it for me.

duckman444 07-06-2010 06:12 PM

oh i hear ya. yeah i never really had a whole lot of luck back there fishing, i was just wondering if it was me

Nah. I fished the heck out of that place when I first got here and never really produced too much anywhere on the river. Several folks local blamed the number of boats and nitrogen as the problem. They also were all waiting on a freshwater diversion/spillway that has yet to happen.

duckman444 07-06-2010 06:24 PM

that ain't happening no time soon. it would prolly be good for trot lines, but it ain't no good for rod n reeling

I tight lined it and, jug lined the heck outa several of the canals and couldn't really do much there. I'm tellin ya, from my experience, it's the Dead Sea. Keep in mind, I'm not a native and may not know "the hot spots." I just never did much there. It's still one of my FAVORITE places to take a mid-week stroll in my skiff! Man, when no one else is out there, it's beautiful to see and ride!

fishinpox 07-06-2010 07:09 PM

i have a buddy who has been catching alot of bass in there latley nothing great in size though. it is littered with jug lines i see them moving in the water all the time lots of gar fish . fish the rock on either side of the pump station or closer to where pit amite meets blind river in the cypress knees

simplepeddler 07-06-2010 07:28 PM

pox has got the idea.....fish AWAY from the Blind River and the Diversion.
Head back from the locks going into Sorrento and Saint Amant.

Those little canals are more fishy then they appear.
I just have a boat that will not make it under all the small bridges.

Gerald 07-06-2010 07:45 PM

Maybe you should just troll around the Prop shop.....I heard it is best on weekends.

yak'em-n-stack'em 07-06-2010 07:46 PM

yeah,

i know a few people been catching crabs at the prop stop

yea every time we fished bass tournaments there the fished seem to be holding around the Prop Stop docks around lunch time......strange pattern indeed.

Actually there used to be some pretty good fishing in and around there.
I absolutely love the place, I wished it was better these days.

We have a great place there...........

the fish and the ducks left when the salvania moved in.
