window tinting

Just wondering if any of you have had any problems getting your trucks inspected lately because of your tint being too dark? Seems like they are getting stricter on what is allowed. I went to 2 different places yesterday, and my truck wouldnt pass. I have 15 on my front windows and they said that the legal was 38. Im trying to find the right connection, cuz I really dont feel like scraping off my tint.

FF_T_Warren 09-16-2010 08:24 AM

yea they dont let it slide like they used to. I finally just peeled mine and got it redone because I was tired of trying to find someone every year. b/c one year a store would do it and the next they wouldnt.

Jordan 09-16-2010 08:29 AM

i had 2% all around (except windshield), got pulled over by a trooper and he pulled his tint meter out and said....."$1,000 ticket ($500/window) or razor blade".... i said i have a razor blade, look behind you !!! he laughed and watched me take the window tint off the front 2 windows....

outcast 09-16-2010 08:29 AM

most inspections stations wont pass illegal tint anymore. they have been busted one too many times and the fines are heavy. also be careful if you have illegal tint and pass thru sorrento. got stopped last year for tint and the fine was $280. ouch

Dink 09-16-2010 08:31 AM

I even tried going with the windows down......they rolled em up and said no......the state has really gotten strict on it. Only way around it is a note from an eye doctor. The days of bring a six-pack and get a sticker are over.......

Dink 09-16-2010 08:33 AM

Unless your a cop, then you can have illegal tint.....just put one of those blue and black stickers on the back

Big Flounder 09-16-2010 09:10 AM

Any of you guys travel la1 in port allen under I 10? There is always cops standing in the road there checking inspection stickers and tint. I rolled through there with my windows down and they made me roll them up and gave me a ticket. You can't just go to an eye dr any more. You have to get a slip from the state police and bring it to an eye dr for him to fill out then bring it back to the state police for them to sign off on it. That's what I heard.

LaAngler 09-16-2010 09:42 AM

i didn't go inside but the guys i saw seemed like some country boys/stoners, no ragheads

Every time I go there is a blonde:smokin: there that just takes my info and money and walks outside to my truck and scrapes old sicker off and puts new one on. The only thing she checks is mileage.

Dink 09-16-2010 10:38 AM

Ohhhh......she got a caboose on her!!!

tcglsu 09-16-2010 11:17 AM

You used to could print the form from the state police website if you had an eye dr that would hook you up Couple of my buddies got tickets with the form.. I just peel my tint off and redo it ...it ain't worth running all over the country for sticker when you gonna get shut down anyway

"H" 09-16-2010 11:22 AM

I got tired re-tinting the front windows every year....just gave in and went with legal tint.

They win as usual :-)

ShadMan 09-16-2010 11:29 AM

Does LA have a requirement that you even have to have side windows in your vehicle? If not, roll them down and pull the fuse when you take it in for inspection and tell them the windows are broken. I do it every year in TX. If a cop tells me to roll them up, I'll tell him the same thing. It's not illegal to not have side windows in TX, so he can't force you to do it if you tell him the windows are broken and don't roll up.

That said, LA has always been stupid about window tint for some reason. TX is much more relaxed about it. Hell, we're in the south and it's freaking hot as hell here in the summer.

Dink 09-16-2010 12:00 PM

Cop got shot in new Orleans thru a dark tinted window......as usual, they went ape **** about dark tint......

Got a place justs like that in the Bluff.

When I took my 1 year old truck in for first inspection....the guy actually told me: "we don't have to inspect new trucks".

southern151 09-16-2010 12:54 PM

I think dark tint like that should be illegal. The cop in NO wasn't the first to be shot like that. It also impairs your vision after dark. You can't deny that.

My brother tints windows on the side of being a cop. He has tinted for 20 years and been a cop for 4. he won't write a ticket for it but he won't tint em illegal either.

ShadMan 09-16-2010 01:42 PM

I don't believe limo tint should be legal, but I have 20% film all the way around and I can see out fine at night. I had a car with 5% once and it was ridiculous to see out of at night.

I understand the desire for LEO safety, which is why if I get pulled over I roll my windows down, keep my hands where they can see them, and I turn on the dome light if it's night time. Tinted windows don't keep me from doing any of that. ;)

ShadMan 09-16-2010 01:44 PM

Gerald - Do 1-year old vehicles have to get inspected in LA? In TX they don't need to be inspected until 2 years.

Everyone, please don't post info on a public forum about people who are helping you by breaking the law. First, they can get in trouble, and second, they can sue you for defamation. ;)

So the tint killed those cops? Do you think guns should be illegal too since he was shot? I mean, where does it stop? Common sense tells you that if approaching a vehicle (especially a suspicious one), you should make the driver roll down all windows. You really think having no tint would have changed the outcome of what happened?

southern151 09-16-2010 02:25 PM

It would have provided more visibility for the officers. Period. The guns part?...You know how I feel about that. They are to defend our homes, families and persons. They are also for recreation and survival. What is tint for?to cool your car?... Buy one with a/c. To protect your eyes?...Use your high dollar Costas. Tint darker than 35% on driver and passenger windows ha been illegal longer than most of us have been driving and serves mo more real purpose than concealment.

southern151 09-16-2010 02:30 PM

In la you have to have an annual inspection regardless of age. In the first year, they don't have it hooked up to the machine. That's Ascension anyway. Just took my wifes year old rig in last month.

It may have something to do with where you buy the vehicle. We bought my wife's SUV in August of 08 and the inspection was just due in August of 10. The same went for my mom when she bought her Tahoe, the inspection was good for 2 years from when she bought it.

ShadMan 09-16-2010 02:51 PM

Yep, that's the way it is here. First inspection (dealer) is good for two years.

This was 3 years ago.......

I think my inspection sticker in Louisiana was only good for 1 year when I bought my new truck.

Should it be illegal to use window coverings on a house? I don't like that it affects my right to privacy.

Good tint will allow your vehicle to cool down noticeably faster and also protect the interior from UV damage.
Why have we allowed so much nonsense legislation to give even more power to LEOs?

Before you know it they'll want to ban driving....oh wait...

speck-chaser 09-16-2010 04:34 PM

yeah, new vehichles from texas comes with 2 yr. inspection. However,my wife got pulled over by state trooper and told her if you live in La. you have to go have it re inspected in La.

SULPHITE 09-16-2010 04:45 PM

good luck on simcoe!! :*****:

man thats crazy

specktator 09-16-2010 07:40 PM

When it comes time for an inspection, I just strip my tint, go get it inspected, and re-tint it after. I just match my front 2 windows with my back 2 windows. Cost me $50

southern151 09-16-2010 07:44 PM

Shades on your house and 2% tint on your car are night an day different! Do you walk around your car naked or play with your kids? Knowing your conspiracy theory dungeons and dragon playing person, I'll never get this point across!
Put you brother in Kevlar and see what your take is! Again, these laws have been in effect years longer than you've been driving so, live within the law or be a "*" and say that you can defy the law and that it's ok for illegal tint and texting and driving.

Bro, you seem to be taking this a bit personal. Keep in mind that law-abiding citizens like to have dark tinted windows also. It's not just the bad guys. Tinted windows make life much more comfortable here in the South, and offer some protection from the bad guys being able to see everything in your car. As a downside, it makes it more difficult for LEOs to see in, and I understand where you're coming from.

However, taking something away from the good guys because the bad guys use it too only results in things like gun bans, curfews, etc. Don't take it personally when the good guys want to have tinted windows and carry guns. They aren't the enemy. The bad guys will find a way to have guns even if they are illegal, and they will conceal guns in a car even if the windows aren't tinted. All you have to do is put it under your leg until the cop gets to the window, then open fire. Removing the ability for people to tint windows to a reasonable level will not make up for sloppy police procedures during a traffic stop.

southern151 09-16-2010 08:29 PM

I give. Nothing taken personally. Legal, 90% of the time, is legal for a reason.

All those who like to "ride dirty" wit your illegal film on windows, please remember, it can also result in lawsuit should you be deemed at fault in an accident. I have seen this in action. Do as you please in life. Just be willing to accept "as you please" as possible citations.

speck-chaser 09-16-2010 08:39 PM

Didnt mean to open up a can o worms all up in here.

LaAngler 09-16-2010 09:12 PM

It doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to figure out that it's just another revenue source (see "speed traps" & "red light cams"), and a little bit more power (which they LOVE)

My argument is just to revise the laws to allow an effective shade of tint.

back to the dungeon :(

Dink 09-16-2010 10:36 PM

Your right Bruce, It doesnt.................but look what happens when you give them an inch............They TAKE 10 MILES!!!!!
