HELP!! Mercury 150 EFI or Mercury 150 Optimax????
Im buying a new boat and i have narrowed it down to 2 Makos and the Mako 191 has the Mercury 2 Stroke 150 EFI and
Mako 1901 Has the Mercury 2 Stroke 150 Optimax I have no clue when it comes to Mercurys but the prices are damn good so any help with some Pros and Cons on these motors would be great!! THANK YALL!! |
I have owned (2) Mako 1901 in the last year or two. One had a 150 Opti and the other a Suki 140 4-stroke. They were Both great but if they were side by side I would probably take the one with the Optimax. For some reason I really like that engine. Good performance on the 19' Mako and "sipped" fuel. Just my .02
So 1901 is the way to go over the 191?
I hear the suki 4 strokes are very good if that was an option i would go 4 stroke but then again i have no clue because this will be my first boat i have owned per say |
The 191 is probably a little lighter boat and easier to clean. The 1901 is heavier and thus a better ride in a chop. The Suki is a great motor but it was really heavy on the back end of the Mako and I didn't like the trottle control...never could get use to it.

well **** lol im stuck between these two boats!! I just dont like how there is no back deck on the 1901.
And how do the Merc EFI's hold up in saltwater all good or lean more towards the optimax? |
I never owned an EFI so I can't comment on them one way or the other
i hear you, but thanks for the other info though budd! Much Appreciated!
Opti all the way. They are more fuel efficient than the EFI and have a little more pep.

I tourney fished (bass) with alot of guys who own the Opti's, never heard a bad word on them........Very good on fuel & will run!
hmmmm looking like its gonna be the 1901
I have a 191 with a suzuki 150, it came with the 140 but Travis upgraded to 150 for $800 more. Very happy with the 150 it's a beast, the boat can take up to a 175. I bet it would fly with a merc 175 proxs. As for the boat I like it... if you have any questions let me know.
go with the 191 and the 150 opti its a lighter hull and it will be quicker with the opti the 191 is bare bones fishing machine way more room inside with that rolled edge than a liner boat has
X2....I'm on board with D and Pox
Optimax no doubt over the four stroke
I have a merc 150 EFI. Get the optimax mine drinks way too much fuel.
Now that the motor question is solved......you sure you wanna go with the mako?? They were bought out years ago.....not the boat they used to be.....IMHO
Well it's a damn good price for a brand new boat and I hate these nautic stars, I was looking at a blue wave 20 footer with a Suzuki 150 4 stroke it's 7 grand more but I'm confused as **** on what to do lol. I like the lay out of all 3 boats just can't decide but that blue wave 200 V Bay is super roomy!
Do yourself a favor. Go look at the blazer bay rolled hulls......you'll be really happy you did.....send Finfeatherfur a pm.....
Btw....I too don't like the naudic star line.....and I'm not trying to bash you, just throwing ideas out there

I have a 01 150 optimax on my fishmaster. The boat has been sitting for almost 2 years now b/c of problems. It ran fine and all of a sudden starting running bad. 3 shops, $2,000, and 2 years later it is still not fixed. I am not putting another penny in it and will buy another motor next year. No one can figure out 100% what is wrong with it. Every shop has changed something different. I loved it when it ran and the gas mileage was awesome. The EFI 2 stroke is way easier to work on than the optimax and parts are much cheaper.
Well I ended up with an 18.4 Blue Wave with a 90 4 Stroke Suzuki. If anyone is free tommorow I'll be fishing Prien Lake and Big Lake area if some one wants to hop in!! Let me know call or text me 337-764-2913
