Help!!!
 

Fishing in a 21 nautic star today and almost did not make it back to Cal Pt. Boat has been taking on water but bilge has done it's job until today. Left the middle of the lake with 2' of water in the bottom.
Boat has no holes in it and I am thinking a through hull fitting is loose or broken. What are the best ways to trouble shoot this problem. Been home for an hour and water is still coming out!!!!!

Grab the water hose and get underneath it. That should shed some light pin your leak.

I guess I am not understanding your proplem.

Where is the water coming out? Would that not be where it leeked into the boat?

I would say put the plug in the boat and put the garden hose in the boat and see where it leaks at...........But dont fill up the whole boat!!!!

Pulled plug at ramp, drove home, and water is still draining out one hour later.

All hose connections below the waterline should have 2 hose clamps. It may be cracked plastic fittings below the waterline. When u change them out, change to bronze, not plastic , s.s. or brass. Bornze only below the waterline. I am heading home tonight. If you don't find it, pm me and I will give u a hand.
I have a friend whose leak was around the fitting that the plug was screwed into. The boat yard used the wrong sealant and it leaked a month later.
3M 5200 is the only sealant I would use below the waterline. In my opinion, nothing else works as good.

If the bilge pump didn't keep up it should be easy to find. You may have a bad bilge pump hose or the impeller may be plugged with trash. If not, i'd change it to a bigger one.

Me, Jordan and Ross went out forgetting the plug and my pump pumped more water than what came in the plug hole. It cycled instead if running all the time.

ask meaux how to fix it he just meltd a popin cork to patch the hole so him and lucas could continue to fish the rest of the day!!!!!

That's what I was trying to say last night but the beer had already started to hender my typing abilities! Lol!!

I wanna bet on livewell pump. Many of the bayboats have plastic pumps that go straight through the transom that when they die they leak like crazy. This is why I always install a brass or stainless ball valve through first. This way when the pump craps out and you take on water just turn the handle.

Was the blige pumping it out? the other day my bilge was running but not pumping out jusr running

this really did happen... its funny now but not so much at the L&M bridge when the whole bottom of your boat is full of water. Turns out both of my live well pumps were leaking, one from a fitting and one through the seals in the pump. 5200 is the only way to seal thru hull as far as im concerned

If you don't have them already, you may want install shut-off valves directly to all through-hulls fittings. I would assume most boats come with them but maybe not.

Loneshark, those are the ball valves I mention, they have yellow grips on the handles. I wish it was law they had to have them but scary thing is 90% of boats in production today do not have them.

I have them on mine. I had them on my old `94 Proline also.
And I have bronze scoops and fittings under the water line.

It is soft foam that is made to stuff into holes of different sizes to plug them off.

Ray, where did you get dat thing? Going to try the water hose this afternoon. MF'er leaked again yesterday at 210, bilge worked intermitently.:pissed:

Found it at Bass Pro in Denham Springs.
I got one just in case.
It is a back up plug but it can be stuffed into any hole, square or round.

Filled her up with water this morning and this is where I think she is leaking. What is this hood supposed to do and if I close it up will it hurt anything? No leaks from thru hull fittings.

I doubt thats your problem....that looks like a drain for your anchor storage. Sometimes filling the boat up its tricky to find a leak. If I had to guess I would say its a livewell pump thats leaking. Not the fitting but the pump itself. Try backing the boat down at the launch with just the stern in the water and open your rear hatch and look to see where its leaking.

That is the drain for your anchor locker. It shouldn't be connected to your bilge in any way, unless there is a hose between the locker and the drain hole that is broke or cracked.
You will need to find out how to get under your anchor locker. If you plug it off, the locker will not drain. That shouldn't be a problem. It don't hold much water.

It is soft pliable foam. It can fit in any shape hole.

Should have explained that I filled the boat through the anchor locker. What you see running out is from the hose but it ran all the way back to the transom too. Montauk, backed it down Sunday and never saw any water coming in through the livewell pumps.

Finding a leak in a boat is a pain,keep looking you will find it.

Yep, Chosen Valley subdivision between Lake and Nelson on Ham Reid. I am going to plug that anchor locker drain hole with Permatex today, really think it is the problem.

If that don't work, holler at me, I have some time during the day to help out.
I don't know how that boat is made, but it sounds funny that water will get into the bilge from that outlet. But you never know.
