Lip Grip

Hey guys and suggestion on which LIP GRIP to buy and is it worth buying one I see alot of people using them but not sure....thanks chris.

southern151 01-08-2011 11:22 PM

I think most guys here are using the Boga Grip. Wanted one but not for $149.99!

I think Outcast said he got one on eBay for about $100 though.

inchspinner 01-08-2011 11:56 PM

I saw some Berkley ones but didnt know if they were great quality, didnt want to spend 30 bucks if it was not the quality.....

Boga grip. U get what u pay for.

I agree with boga grip. I have a cheap one from Cabelas and it has already cost me a bull red. I was attempting to land a 20+ pound redfish in Grand Isle for yak'em. It was his first redfish on fly rod. I lipped the fish and attempted to bring it in the boat when the grip opened and I dropped the fish back into the water watching it swim away.

Like corey said, I got my 15lb boga off of ebay. 99.00 with free shipping. Cant beat it

specktator 01-09-2011 08:49 AM

I thought the same thing about them not being worth the money till I bought my boga. Got it off eBay for $100 as well.

What is the purpose of a 'lip grip'? Why not a net?

It also has a built in scale that is very accurate. Lot of people rather wade with a boga than a net just cause it's less to carry.

It was a joke, man. Get with the program.

He claims everything on ebay is "refurbished".

i see now

I bought one from bass pro that I liked for like 25 bucks. It was as accurate as a real boga but I lost it wading cause I was too lazy to put a float on it

outcast 01-09-2011 12:31 PM

Boga can also be sent off and certified by igfa for record catches. Also it doesnt harm the fish for catch and release

inchspinner 01-09-2011 06:17 PM

Awsome relplies, thanks fellas, but is it any better for just landing the BIG fish in the boat than a net is....thanks again....

Personally if it's over 4 pounds I'm gonna net it first even if I'm wading. But I don't catch as many hogs as some of these guys. I don't wanna lose it.

inchspinner 01-09-2011 06:22 PM

I've landed a few and lost a few right at the boat, so im just wondering whats better....

I bought a cheap no name grip from Academy. Rusted out in no time.
Got my wife to get me a Boga for Christmas last year.
Still going strong. They use good stainless steel.

i got a boga, really nice and totally worth the cash... but when it comes to getting big fish in the boat... forget the boga unless u wanna weigh it... GET THE NET!! i've lost a few fish at the boat while screaming "OPEN YOUR MOUTH, YOU SLIMEY #@&#!!" :*****:

Lip Grip

I usually keep 3 or 4 Lip Grips in the boat and we use 'em all the time. They work fine for boating fish once you get the hang of it; plus they float if you drop 'em. :)

For "Big fish" I use a net then use the Lip Grip to get them out of the net. They work really good for holding fish while removing hook(s), especially top-water and cranks.

For weighing fish, I use a lbs. & oz. digital scale (more precise than scales measuring in 1/10 lbs). The Lip Grip weighs 5 oz. and has a hole in one handle to put the scale hook in. The girls like the Lip Grip for holding fish for picture taking.

I have a couple of certified Bogas too I use for tournament fishing but if I'm in a culling situation I still rely on my digital scales and when it gets real close it balance beam time.

Something I've learned about Lip Grip over the years is don't store them with the jaws closed and they will retain a strong grip longer.

I have had a Berkley for over 7 years. No rust, works great on everything from 2 lb hardheads to 25 lb snapper.

Why, a net is 1/3 lighter and floats.
