Toss Up!!

First, This is my first post. I have heard about the site, and so far am impressed. The "other" site was getting to be like a kindegartner class.

Here Goes.
I am going Fishing tomorrow, I just don't know where. Should I go to Vermilion Bay/Weeks Bay area or make th drive to big lake? I have a 18' modified V with 90 etec. Real Wet boat, so I am trying to figure what will be better weather wise. I have a friend in from Kansas City who really needs to catch some fish...
Any Advice appreciated.

SULPHITE 07-16-2009 09:01 PM

SULPHITE 07-16-2009 09:06 PM

It may be a little windy on big lake...south end of the lake would be fishable or south end of west cove...water in west cove was a nice green color last Fri...

Definatley not the worst day to fish Big L

If you find a group of birds that hold, its on...

You know where the trash pile is :*****::*****::*****::*****::*****::rotfl::rotfl:: rotfl::rotfl::*****::*****::*****:

Finfeatherfur 07-16-2009 09:26 PM

Good luck on getting that man some fish! The winds may not be that bad, but if I had to choose and only had tomorrow, I would do the V-bay thing and here's why.

Big Lake is mostly unprotected, so it can get ugly quick. At V-bay, at least you can go into Marsh Island and catch reds/flounder if the bay is choppy. I would try my best to get to the west side of the bay which would be protected and should hold some good water. Another reasons is the T-storms they are calling for. It is a lot closer to V-bay than Big Lake from Maurice if the T-storms crash your party. *Less gas and more beer drinking at The City Bar!* lol

Good Luck and let us know how you do!

They both look decent for tomorrow If you go to V. Bay you will probably have to go to the reefs outside...haven't been down there in a while so do really know though

Thats Funny D. We fished the Trashpile and Weeks Bay Earlier in the week and Caught a few Reds and Flounder. I went out of intracoastal City yesterday and we got hammered. Tomorrow is his last day so I am willing to risk the $$$ if the fishing would be better.

Ray 07-16-2009 09:56 PM

Launch at Prien Lake and fish the marshes up there, or Cal. Point and fish the LNG canal. That might be pretty well protected. Or launch at the Jetties in Cameron and fish the calm side of the rocks.

handyman 07-16-2009 09:58 PM

Where is Prien Lake.... or Cal Point....Is this near Lake Charles?

Could you possibly go out a day or so earlier so we can fish ahead of the big moon?

killa k 07-16-2009 10:16 PM

Went in Prien today (its on the west side of I-210 take the south Nelson exit) caught a few fish in the ship channel. Lake Charles is about a 5 minute boat ride north of there and crossing the I-10 bridge earlier today I saw a MASSIVE group of birds working the SE end of the beach about 100yds offshore, with no rain it may actually be salty enough for some trout to be up that far.

Is the barrier the Damn Structure north of Prien or the Levee across the Channel East of the Dam

the barrier is north of lake charles on the calcasieu river. I would say its more like a lock than a dam.

SULPHITE 07-16-2009 10:47 PM

it is located in westlake

Gerald 07-16-2009 11:06 PM

Prien Lake boat launch is about 1/4 mile south of I-210. Get off at Nelson road exit. Take a right at the light across from the Walmart. Go to the end of this road and turn left. Go about .5 miles and the boat launch is on the right.

Fish the dropoffs along the ship channel. If you go early...maybe go up the river [to the northeast] about 3 miles to a large lake just south of I-10. There could be some seagulls feeding there.

Caution....in this lake, it is shallow just west of the ship channel about mid way. South end and up closer to the bridge are ok to run. There are some 20+ foot deep water in this lake.

Prien Lake has 2 free launch ramps, one right under the I-210 bridge.
Calcasieu Point is a launch off of Big Lake Rd. It is on Devils Elbow,
just East of the Calcasieu Ship Channel and at the beninning of the
LNG canal. Just a short run to Turners Bay at the top of Big Lake.

handyman 07-18-2009 10:09 PM

Thanks to all that Posted Info....I was able to get my buddy some trout and a limit of Reds before he went back to Kansas City, Mo.

Thanks Again
