Saw some wadefishermen at the ramp and asked what the hell that bait was they had and it was a 'corky' they had a 6.5 lb trout and said they had a 10 last year. But if I wanted to catch a big fish I would put a big ol pogie on and let it ride!

LPfishnTIM 01-16-2011 03:39 PM

corkys are good for $7.99 a lure!

LaAngler 01-16-2011 03:42 PM

the one you have the most confidence in is by far the best.

skeeter300zx 01-16-2011 03:46 PM

Why not throw big swim baits

I have only tried wading the lake once and wasn't very successful. That was salty cajun tourney last year and the weather was awful. Gonna try it a bunch after duck season. I have about $200 in corky's and haven't caught a trout on one yet. Hopefully I change that in the next month or so. Until I catch one on a corky, my big fish bait is a bone or white/chartreuse Super Spook or live bait. :)

Seems like most all the big trout baits are made in Tejas.

I’m sure they have a million of them that never caught a trout...this bait needs time and patience to fish......I only fish one wading and then I hate to fish them...

I can catch the same big trout with a Sand Eel Sr or Jerk Jr with a 1/8 oz jig head....I will catch more fish with this set up as well...

I have caught some nice ones on Corkys but I rather wade and catch numbers of big trout than one or two....

Duck Butter 01-16-2011 05:49 PM

After fishing yesterday we tried for a big trout and rigged up some Mann's Stretch 30's and pulled a couple of ballyhoo rigs behind a purple/black marauder. We got some crazy looks from the drifters so we just switched to Flying Lures and Helicopter Lures with our Pocket Fisherman and it was game on. 6 lbs plus on EVERY cast

U right. I have caught 95% of my trout on the lake on sand eels. Only 1 over 5 lbs. But when I'm hoggin, I don't throw eels. Confidence issues I guess. Everything else over 5 on topwater and a few on live.

I have caught countless over 6 on sand eel jr......Damn Darren O slung a 8lb 31inch trout and then threw right back out and caught a 7.6 with a sand eel jr ...two years ago..

evis102 01-16-2011 06:29 PM

Corkys are trash. I will give you $3 a bait no matter the color or type.

trophytroutman 01-16-2011 09:15 PM

Pink corky fat boy for sure.

Montauk17 01-16-2011 11:04 PM

They say bigger bait equals big fish....my personal best was a 6 1/2 pounder caught on a sparkle beetle. A she dog is my favorite to target bigger trout on,caught several 5's on that lure.

LPfishnTIM 01-16-2011 11:44 PM

I gotz some bomber topwater baits I like gonna give em a try in a couple months

Garfish 01-18-2011 09:47 AM

Mirrolure in the surf.
Either a Top dawg, She dawg or a 51 or 52 M if the top ain't workin.
Caught some bigguns on a Chug Bug too.

she-dog top-dog super-spook in bone, white/chart, chrome/chart, and a ton of others work for me my personal best was only 5lbs but was caught in the surf on a green/white top-dog

jpeff31787 01-18-2011 02:24 PM

the 4 biggest trout that came into my boat were caught on sparkle beetles.. 8 and 3 between 6-7. Also hooked another 8-9 on a deadly dudely.. lost her at the boat ;(

Floater-winter

troutwhisperer 01-18-2011 07:38 PM

right place, right time, and whatever floats in front of their face....i think they will eat anything that is in front of them. now knowing where to be and when to be there is another thing...other than that the before mentioned baits up your chances...thats what i think anyway

I agree with this. In order to consistently catch big trout...you have to think like a big trout. But, there is an enormous amount of luck involved.

Disagree.....It does not take luck to catch big trout.........you just have to know where and when to fish them...AKA Find them....

Floater in winter goes against what you would think. Interesting!

And that's where the luck comes in.

No such thing as luck, just in the right place at the right time. :*****:
