hey outcast, if u just have to have another all star rod, u can get the new all star rods from us at the tackle box or any reputable ASR dealer and i believe they can be exchanged for one year over the counter and after that, thru the manufacturer. (with reciept, of course.. we cant take back ASR's from BPS). i will check tomorrow to make sure about the ASR's. wright mcgill is goin to that warranty too for their skeet reese and blair wiggin's rods. shimano still offers lifetime over the counter replacement for all their rods from the convergence series on up. gimme a holler if i can help ya. ;)

Last time I checked!!!! Best rod I have ever used!! I did get introduced to the H&H rods!!! They are great also...haven't broke it yet or had trouble so...that will make my call to pull the trigger on another one!!! But I have a room full of Waterloos... Never found a rod you can buy at any store even close to the performance.... But custom rods cost money and not everyone wants to pay that for a rod.... Only rods I would buy in stores would be Shimano, falcon and cheaper route All star

Note: all star rods are not the same as the 1st ones made out of Texas! Once bought out By (Shakespeare I think??) Rod quality has went to crap,,,imo

SULPHITE 01-27-2011 09:17 AM

It's all subjective, those rods are pretty much production rods. The quality control isn't what it should be for 175-325 dollar rods either. You really only have choice of a couple of actions. Have one made with a rainshadow or shikari medium fast blank and you'll have the same lightweight feel.

Last all star i had broke about 3 times, finally i gave it away.

IMO, Falcon rods are the best bank for the buck. Not saying "there" the best. To each his own.

:pissed::pissed: I have to agree with you...wont happen again.....

If i had to buy a rod from a store...It would be a Falcon...the old coastal were kick azz in the day.... Have not fished with a Falcon rod in a few years but I have always like them and had great luck...........

I really never found a Shimano rod I liked....dont know just short fat hands i guess

Carrot sticks was mention above some where...... If have spoke with many anglers and that rod is one of the worst on there list of rods......... I never picked one up...but know many who have talked real bad about them....Like I said..Just info I heard talking with other guides and anglers who fish over 200 days a year..

I just went to the waterloo rod website, and man you want to talk about some nice rods. And there is some photos of some monster trout on there.

I had an Allstar rod.
They told me I had to pay shipping to and from Houston to get it fixed, plus $50 to fix it.
I broked it one more time so it would fit in the trash can.

LPfishnTIM 01-27-2011 09:04 PM

I'm having a custom rod built right now

you can find a falcon HD at academy (made in china) $59.99-$69.99

I think at one time Falcon use to get their blanks at one time from Shikari blanks. I built a few rods out of these blanks. They are light and sensitive on bad side didn't take much for them to break.

Right now I buy the cheapest blank I can get my hands on.
Put micro guides on them. Total cost is around $40 to $50.
If blank breaks I just take everything off and put it on another cheap blank.
Get my stuff from Swampland tackle in Houma or when in Houston Fishing tackle unlimited out of Houston
I find the el cheapo blanks work better than a $100 store bought rods.
Got a bad habit of breaking the tips and not worth investing too much money in a rod that I will break.
