Which baitcaster

Looking to get a new baitcaster. Budget is around $200 and will be using it to mainly catch some reds and trout. Looking hard at the Quantum Energy PT and the smoke. Give me your opinions please! Also looking for a good rod to match it with. Rods I have been looking at are the G Loomis GL3 or the Pro Green.

I bought one like this last year and love it, definately worth the money.

meaux fishing 03-01-2011 04:17 PM

curado is best in my opinion for that price range... as for a rod one of my favorite trout rods I have is a st croix premier 7' crankbait rod.. but the rod you buy depends on what type of fishing you will be doing. By that i mean: 1st wading or boat, 2nd live or artificial, 3rd deep or shallow

X5 .. the curados are all i fish and i sell piles of them at the tackle box. shimano makes some of the best reels for the money on the market. they are light, cast very well and hold up under some of the harshest conditions. you wont be disappointed with a shimano cu200e7.

bluewing 03-01-2011 06:26 PM

used to be a calcutta man till i switch to Shimano Curado 200, both good reels just the Curado last a lil longer

LaAngler 03-01-2011 06:28 PM

all i use is the chronarch, really holds up in the salt.

BIGJ 03-01-2011 06:36 PM

Any one you buy, just make sure it says "Shimano" on the reel.

longcast 03-01-2011 07:50 PM

I have 2 curado200e7. There awesome reels. As far as rods go i like the warranty of shimano. No hassle at all.

Don't get me started. :smokin:

jchief 03-01-2011 08:21 PM

I don't think you can go wrong with a Curado in your price range.

Yeah yah right

all star rod 03-01-2011 09:20 PM

Depends on how much you fish and want to spend. I have 3 Curados & 1 Chronarch......in stores the Chronarch will run you right at 300 plus tax and the Curado right at 200 plus tax. Both are great reels.

For the difference in price, Chronarch is the better buy....definitely a better reel.

LaAngler 03-01-2011 11:01 PM

salty sell me a core 50

that 100D is still going strong 2 years & 1 dunk later, only basic maint.

Dink 03-01-2011 11:15 PM

Diawa coastal.......better, smaller reel for less money. Use the extra money for lures. Its all about the bearings. Shimanos are open to salt and elements, diaeas are sealed......no dirt in, no grease out.

Dink 03-01-2011 11:19 PM

Or if you really wanna nice reel, get the zillion coastal!!

Go to Lake Charles Tackle and get the combo, Curado200E7 with a Shimano rod... Total before tax is around $239.99. Life time warrenty. Also G-loomis in now owned by Shimano, but does not carry a life time.

At the Tackle Box, we have that same deal on a shimano curado and shimano lifetime rod combo. EXCEPT we're about $5 LESS ... $234.99 :D

Yes you can save 50-60 bucks on the Curado and Chronarch on EBAY compared to buying in the stores. Never got one on EBAY but I know someone who has and they have had no issues.

Oh jeez!!!! That's funny!!!

yak'em-n-stack'em 03-02-2011 12:54 PM

Right. On my curado that was a gift and my falcon Rods that I got for discount.

I can catch fish with or without them but the more you fish you'll learn the comfort and feel of quality gear is worth it
