Just got my Browning Gold back from the camo dip place! It came out so good and for $165, I could not be more pleased!

This thing looked like crap, but now looks like it came off the shelf.

Armand16 03-03-2011 01:20 PM

I know you would!

Big Jim's Camo in GA did it. He doesn't use Realtree or Mossy Oak, so thus no royalties, thus saves the $ for the consumer. Very pleased!

specktator 03-03-2011 01:58 PM

looks awesome!

So $165 was cheap? I was thinking about looking into getting my BPS done but screw that lol.

I am on the road, but will confirm and post when I get home. Google Big Jim's Camo.

Not sure what you are expecting, but that is nothing for a good job, which turned an old beat up synthetic gun into something that looks this good. Besides, local gunshops want 250 smackers to take the gun apart and ship it to get dipped.

Bluechip 03-03-2011 03:57 PM

That's looks nice 3F. Too bad you didn't take some before pics.

I just wasn't expecting it to cost that much to get that done. I woulda thought that $165 woulda been on the high end. Don't get me wrong, it looks awesome but I just wasn't expecting it to be that high.

I dropped $225 in 2004 to have mine moly coated. Anything under 2 bills is a real deal!

wtretrievers 03-03-2011 10:04 PM

That is sweeeeeeeet. I like the camo pattern! There was a lady here that would hand paint them for $100 & it was awesome, she don't do it anymore:cry:

Salty 03-04-2011 09:37 PM

That's a professional lookin' job. Cool pattern, too.

I have a 70 year-old Browning Auto 12 that I'd like to have something done like that, but, everybody tells me not to mess with it. Says it'll decrease the value.

Salty - a 70 year old Browning should not be dipped in camo. However, I would consider a professional restoration, and I am not talking about just any gunsmith! I am no professional, and I did not sleep in a Holiday Inn Express, but that is a collectors piece for sure!

Three gunsmiths told me not to touch it.

If i's in decent shape and is operable, I wouldn't touch it.

And they are all correct!

Dink 03-05-2011 01:40 AM

Salty.......I have to many comebacks to your post......I'm on overload.....will be back tomorrow

Finfeatherfur 03-05-2011 09:29 AM

Or NOT!!!!!!! If it is operational. I know most collectors want the gun to function, and function as it was built to operate. If it does not, or has major issues (rust, damage stock/forearm), then I would seek a restoration on it, otherwise you have no money to be gained in a heap of crap!

I know what they are saying, and it is true - don't touch a classic. But most gunsmiths do not know how to "restore" an old weapon and I would have it appraised by a gun broker before doing anything!

A5's are still only worth so much, its not like an old Parker or L.C.Smith side by side.At most I would say it "could" be worth $2000 and that depends on model and shape. If it was a magnum or light 20 or a sweet 16 with a ribbed barrel and Belgium made then it could be worth that. You can find A5's all day in great shape for $800 to $1000.If it was made in Japan its not worth as much but its probably Belguim made being that old.
My point is if you enjoy hunting with it then have it dipped!! Theres nothing like hunting with something thats been in the family!

DON'T TOUCH IT! Especially if its a Belgian model.
Have the Auto 5 Belgian and just took it apart because it was jamming on me every shell and cleaned it. Had a couple people want to offer 600+ for my dad's. If anything I'll get a black synthetic stock and keep the old one as a deal breaker.

As for your gun FFF, looks very good. Want to get my 20 gauge dipped some day, maybe even my pistol .

jldsc 08-04-2011 04:10 AM

I have some friends that started doing it in Jennings, just off of hwy 90 by J&J Marine, they do just about any color or camo their is. Solid colors, carbon fiber, and if I remember correctly he told me 7 different camo's...Its T-Boy Comeaux and Brice Meaux..Not sure the name of it, Saltyshaw may now the number??

SaltERedneck 08-04-2011 07:38 AM

Like the gun!
